Infinitrack Road Roller – Yu-Gi-Oh! Card of the Day

Infinitrack Road Roller – #CYAC-EN022

If an EARTH Machine monster is Tributed, or banished face-up: You can Special Summon this card from the GY (if it was there when the monster was Tributed or banished) or hand (even if not), but banish it when it leaves the field. You can only use this effect of “Infinitrack Road Roller” once per turn. An Xyz Monster whose original Type is Machine and has this card as material gains this effect.
● Face-up monsters your opponent controls are changed to Defense Position, also they lose 1000 DEF.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Infinitrack Road Roller marks that return of Infinitrack to the CoTD segment.

Level 5 with equal ATK/DEF of 2100, Road Roller Special Summons itself off an EARTH Machine being tributed or banished face-up. Easiest way to do this is to summon Infinitrack Harvester, then tribute it off for another Infinitrack monsters and then Special Summon this. This effect also applies if Road Roller was in the grave as well, doubling your chances of Special Summoning it. It does banish itself when it leaves the field, which is a downer, because usually that kind of stipulation is saved for Special Summoning itself from the grave, not the full Special Summon effect.

The change to defense position and 1000DEF drop is an alright effect. This as an Xyz Material effect makes things easier to run over, and with most big monsters having smaller DEF to balance out their ATK stats, this almost ensures that your high ATK monsters will win in battle. Infinitrack River Stormer with its 2500ATK will likely never lose a battle with any defense position monster, and then get to attach it as a material, which will likely lead to you detaching that for an EARTH Machine-Type search from the deck or Foolish Burial of that type of monster. However, DEF means no damage for them unless you’ve got piercing, and Link Monsters are immune to this effect. Infinitracks are paired with the Trains archetype and there isn’t any direct way of attaching this to one of the Trains to give them that extra ability but the Trains with their huge ATK and Rank 10-making abilities want to deal damage.

Stall is the word I think about when Road Roller’s ability as an Xyz Material comes to mind. It’s nice to stop your opponent from being able to attack but there’s no negation added and that DEF drop goes away if Road Roller goes away as a material or off the field entirely. Negation even for a turn would have helped more than this.

We haven’t seen much from Infinitrack since 2020, so it’s nice for the archetype to get a new card. Today we look at the latest tool to the Infinitrack arsenal: Infinitrack Road Roller.

Road Roller is a Level 5 EARTH Machine with 2100 ATK and DEF. Stats are solid on a Level 5, and EARTH Machine a great combo. The first effect triggers if an EARTH Machine is tributed or banished face-up, letting you Special Summon this card from the hand or graveyard, depending on where it was, but it’s banished when it leaves the field. Nice little way to synergize with all the other Level 5 Infinitracks since they all tribute to summon themselves and banish theirselves from the grave for various effects. You shouldn’t really have to worry about this getting banished since you’ll likely go into Infinitrack River Stormer with this as one of the Xyz Materials, losing the risk of it getting banished. That effect is a hard once per turn I should mention, so you can’t just slap 3 of these down with ease. The second effect is given to an Xyz Monster whose original Type is Machine and has this card as material, making the opponent’s monsters be swapped to Defense Position and all lose 1000 DEF. Makes them easier to run over at least so your Infinitrack Xyzs can attach them to theirselves as material. I do wish Infinitracks did have more piercing to help take advantage of swapping all the monsters to Defense Position and debuffing them. Anyways, Road Roller is an alright card for the archetype. It isn’t as good as the last time they got support with cards like Brutal Dozer and Heavy Forward, but it’s still a fine card for the archetype.

Infinitrack Road Roller is a simple but effective addition to the Infinitrack lineup, a level 5 EARTH Machine; like the rest of its brethren it has synergy with the holy EARTH Machine quartet of Infinitrack, Machina, Ancient Gear, and Trains, and can be searched by a variety of other Infinitrakc monsters. Road Roller’s stats are about average for a level 5 monster, with both stats being 2100, so it can put up a decent fight in emergencies.

To offset being level 5, Road Roller can Special Summon itself from your hand or Graveyard if any EARTH Machine is tributed or banished face-up on a hard once per turn, though it’ll banish itself once it leaves the field. It’s a simple effect, but it’ll almost always be live since the deck’s main extenders, Infinitrack Brutal Dozer and Infinitrack Trencher, both trigger Road Roller. You can also weave it into combos involving Infinitrack River Stormer so you won’t necessarily have to open it all the time either. Road Roller’s other effect applies as long as it’s an Xyz material for an originally Machine Xyz monster, forcing all of your opponent’s monsters into defense position and dropping their defense by 1000. This effect is pretty weird, but not particularly bad; it’s clearly meant to help your Infinitrack Xyz monsters score easy kills on your opponent’s monsters and absorb them as Xyz material. In Ancient Gear hybrids, it can help easily secure an OTK with Ancient Gear Chaos Giant thanks to its piercing damage and multi-attack. Otherwise, it’s not a terrible way to stall your opponent since it’ll prevent them from attacking, if only for a short while. Overall, a solid new addition that doesn’t really change the game, but it does make EARTH Machines a little better at what they already do. You could run 3 to get the most mileage out of it as an extender, but if you plan to use it in specific combos, just 1 will do.
