Kitchen Dragonmaid – Yu-Gi-Oh! Review

Kitchen Dragonmaid starts us off with a Dragonmaid week.

RoTA for the archetype no matter how you summon her, great, then a discard from the hand to even out the plus. Getting a Dragonmaid into the grave isn’t a bad thing as the Dragonmaid monsters can Special Summon back a Dragonmaid from the graveyard or from the hand. Kitchen could be considered the Dragonmaid that gets things going. It’s one of your Normal Summons and being a searcher, gets you a Dragonmaid you need depending on your situation. You could search Kitchen’s dragon form and have a 2000ATK Honest-like monster for any of your Dragonmaids. It can be a downer because you need a Dragonmaid to discard. If you topdeck Kitchen, you’ll be discarding the Dragonmaid you got from the deck, but you can always pop Kitchen back to Special Summon a Level 8 Dragonmaid from the grave if you are topdecking.

Kitchen thins the deck like most of the other Dragonmaid human forms do, but this one can get you something to use in conjunction with your other cards rather than fill your grave or Special Summon from the grave.

From Mathmechs we now have what is probably the biggest fan favorite from Mystic Fighters in the Dragonmaid archetype and the first one we’ll look at is Kitchen Dragonmaid.

Kitchen Dragonmaid is a Level 3 FIRE Dragon with 500 ATK and 1700 DEF. Solid DEF to make up for that low ATK, being a Dragon is nice and the attributes don’t really matter in this archetype that much. If Kitchen is Normal/Special Summoned, you can search for any Dragonmaid monster that isn’t another Kitchen, and then send a Dragonmaid from your hand to the graveyard. It’s nice to get a consistency boost while at the same time getting graveyard setup since Dragonmaids can easily revive their monsters while getting their search for a piece they might be missing. Sure it doesn’t search for Spells or Traps, but we’ll get that soon enough. For now, it’s fine to get to the monsters this easily on a simple summon. Kitchen also has an effect all the small Dragonmaids share where they bounce themselves to the hand at the start of the Battle Phase to summon a Dragonmaid from the hand that’s 5 Levels higher, which in this case would be a Level 8, from your hand or graveyard. So it’s nice to be able to use the Level 8s for Trade-In fodder or something since they could revive the big Dragons anyways. It would also get a bigger body on the board during the Battle Phase, which is what you’d want to actually get over monsters and go for game. Kitchen Dragonmaid is a pretty good piece of consistency for the Deck and I’d say is an easy 3 of, like most of the maid forms of the Dragonmaids.

Art: 4.5/5 I usually don’t try to pander to stuff like this, but I’ll at least say the Dragonmaids in their maid forms are cute.

Another new theme as we continue to usher in 2020, referring here to the Dragonmaids.  Kitchen Dragonmaid, is a Level 3, Fire/Dragon Monster, with 500 attack and 1700 defense.  We’re not winning much with that attack but the defense is respectable enough.  So, a Normal or Special Summon of this card nets you any other theme Monster (aside from herself) from your Deck to your Hand.

Versatility is always appreciated, and an instant +1 like that is great.  You then have to cycle a theme Monster from your Hand to the Graveyard, which honestly isn’t a bad thing given how this theme works.  As we also see from this card alone.  By returning this card from the Field to your Hand during the Battle Phase, you can Special Summon a Level 8 theme Monster from your Hand or Graveyard.

Bingo, to put that in a sense.  Trading in a weaker Monster, after already having fetched another one of your choosing, and trading it in for a brute is just excellent.  Simply put, you can gain lots of advantage from this card in no time at all, and likely all in the same turn.  Note, too, it can be the Battle Phase of either player.  Appropriately too, each effect here is once per turn.

Art:  4/5  She’s not all that cute, per say, but she’s absolutely a handmaid, and I kinda like the kitchen artwork better than of her herself.
