I’ve always been a fan of the leyline concept (not necessarily represented well by Ley Line), and it’s used infrequently enough that it doesn’t overstay its welcome and burn out the design. Note, for example, that every time they’ve done leylines, the black representative has been the same. This time around, blue gets an effect familiar to anyone who’s played with the Ixalan block, and it speeds up your type-changing combo or synergy dramatically in the games where you get it for free. I’m not sure which synergy would require you to mulligan so aggressively for your type-changing enchantment, but that’s for you to decide – it invites going wild with deck design and self-created puzzles, which is always fun.

Another set, another tranche of leylines. Well, mostly another tranche, but Leyline of Transformation is the kind of card that stands out as a sometimes-free version of Arcane Adaptation. It’s better if it’s free and worse if you have to pay for it…but the upside can sometimes make for a potent payoff for a tribe-focused deck, and “slightly worse version of a good, albeit situational, card” can pay off when the situation lines up.
