You can banish 1 Level 8 Dragon monster from your Extra Deck; Special Summon this card from your hand, also you cannot Special Summon for the rest of this turn, except Dragon monsters. During your Main Phase: You can Fusion Summon 1 Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck, using monsters from your hand or field. When an opponent’s monster declares an attack: You can make this card lose exactly 500 ATK/DEF, and if you do, that opponent’s monster loses 1500 ATK. You can only use each effect of “Light End Sublimation Dragon” once per turn.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Light End Sublimation Dragon starts our week looking at the Light End and Dark End archetype. Gotta say, was really hoping for some good Light and Darkness Dragon support but we can’t always get what we want.

LESD carries the same stats as its predecessor, however it is a Main Deck and not an Extra Deck monster. Trade-In synergy, LESD can be Special Summoned by banishing a Level 8 Dragon from your Extra Deck. While you may not always use this route to summon LESD, it is a handy and readily available way to summon. You get locked into Dragon monsters for the turn, but there’s plenty of those.

A Poly on the field during your Main Phase, you are likely to leave LESD out because of its other ability to drop ATK of the opponent’s attacking monster. Speaking of that, same ability as the Synchro: drop ATK/DEF by 500, drop opponent’s attacking monster by 1500 permanently. Oddly enough, this effect is worse than the original. Light End Dragon allowed you to use this effect when you attacked as well as the opponent attacking. On top of that, Light End Dragon can do that until it cannot drop its ATK/DEF anymore by 500, while LESD can only do that once per turn. Not sure why it wouldn’t be the other way around.

Easier to summon and a built-in ability to Fusion Summon are good additions to a monster that didn’t have too much else going for it. The ATK drop against the opponent is good, but having to wait for the attack isn’t. Should have kept the original effect on this card or made it a Quick-Effect.

In an interesting twist of what we usually see from core sets, we actually have support for Chazz’s Light and Darkness Dragon strategy he used in the manga with a couple new cards, starting with a Light End Dragon retrain: Light End Sublimation Dragon.

Light End Sublimation Dragon is a Level 8 LIGHT Dragon with 2600 ATK and 2100 DEF. Fine stats for a Level 8, LIGHT is always solid, and Dragon is always great. You can banish any Level 8 Dragon in the Extra Deck to Special Summon this card from your hand, basically a make good on the game version of Light End Dragon and Dark End Dragon being Synchros despite the manga having them as regular Effect Monsters. You don’t have to use Light End Dragon or Dark End Dragon, but it’s lore as to why you summon this card this way. You can only Special Summon Dragons for the rest of the turn, which is fine with how many amazing Dragon monsters there are. During the Main Phase, you can Fusion Summon any Fusion by using monsters from your hand or field, which is due to the new Light and Darkness Dragon being a Fusion. You can still have some variety in what you summon with this, maybe run it in Branded or Blue-Eyes if you aren’t going for the new Light and Darkness Dragon. Finally, when the opponent’s monster declares an attack, you can have this lose 500 ATK/DEF to make the attacking monster lose 1500 ATK/DEF, which is from the original Light End Dragon, but less versatile since it requires an attack vs Light End Dragon just being able to target any monster at a time. HOPT on each effect, standard on modern cards. It’s a fine card, an easy Level 8 body on the field that can let you do Fusion plays in whatever Dragon strategy you run this in. The last effect is just a bonus, cause I don’t know if this is staying on the field if you run it. Fun to run in some Dragon Decks, a 3-of if you want to use the new Light and Darkness Dragon strategy.

Chazz wouldn’t take the flop of his Armed Dragon cards from Blazing Vortex lying down, so this week we’re covering the Light and Darkness Dragon quasi-archetype introduced in Infinite Forbidden, based on Chazz’s eponymous monster from the manga. Light End Sublimation Dragon is first, a level 8 LIGHT Dragon monster, which I would still argue is the third best thing to be in this game behind a DARK Dragon or a level 1 FIRE monster. The best ways to get to it are Starleige Seyfert, Dragon’s Light and Darkness, and Draconnection, though there are a lot of bad ways to access it as well. Despite being level 8, Sublimation has a mediocre stat spread of 2600 attack and 2100 defense, though I guess it’s just being faithful to the original (which is in fact an effect monster, since it would be weird for Chazz to use Synchros…).

Sublimation has three hard once per turn effects, the first letting you Special Summon it from your hand by banishing any level 8 Dragon monster from your Extra Deck, locking you into Special Summoning Dragon monsters for the rest of the turn in the process. While free bodies are nice, the banishing is more annoying than you would think, since you’re effectively running  smaller Extra Deck when there are more efficient Dragon extenders out there (that also don’t lock you!). You’re clearly meant to banish the original Synchros, though it’s more practical to just run Starving Venom Fusion Dragon, which lets you double dip with Super Polymerization in some builds. Sublimation can also simply Fusion Summon any Fusion monster using your hand or field. Naturally, this enables summoning their boss monster, but it has mainly seen success as an enabler in Dragonmaid hybrids, since it not only provides a way to fuse but also a level 8 body for Dragonmaid Sheou, which normally requires hard opening a Bystial or high-level Dragonmaid. Sublimation’s last effect is lifted straight from the Synchro, triggering when your opponent declares an attack to drop Sublimation’s attack and defense by 500, then drop that monster’s attack by 1500. Needless to say, smart opponents will not fall for this, so I wouldn’t rely on it. As it is technically still a free body, the topping lists have seen success running 3 copies; you won’t fuse all the time, but you’ll only need another Dragon jobber to make Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres, which oddly enough is still strong enough sometimes.
