Light of the Branded – #PHHY-EN056

Target 1 Fusion Monster on the field or in either GY; return it to the Extra Deck, then you can Special Summon 1 “Fallen of Albaz” from your GY to your field and 1 monster from your opponent’s GY to their field. You can only activate 1 “Light of the Branded” per turn.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Getting back into full Albaz storyline mode this week, starting with Light of the Branded.

LotB is a Quick-Play that revolves around getting Albaz to the field. Being able to use a Fusion Monster on the field or in the grave is some good flexibility to lessen the restriction of the card and to not put you at a disadvantage if things don’t go your way. Pop that Fusion Monster back to your Extra Deck so that you can Special Summon Albaz from the grave, as well as give your opponent a monster from their grave. This isn’t something you want to ever do, but Albaz can use his psudo-Super Poly style effect which will lead into you getting another Fusion Monster onto the field (potentially the one you just sent back to the Extra Deck), making this card a +1 when all is said and done. A lot can go wrong when playing this card though: your opponent gets a monster back, which likely means negation or effect(s) upon their summon, they can negate/destroy your Albaz, and they can negate/destroy the Fusion you summon off of it. Those negatives though follow pretty much any play in the game though, and while you give your opponent a monster, as long as you can use Albaz’s effect to use the opponent’s monster to your advantage.

Light of the Branded can be used to get back a Fusion Monster you lost or save your Fusion Monster on the field. You can re-summon the monster you put back if you give your opponent a monster that Albaz can then Fusion with. It has the potential to be another round-about fusion card for you, but you never want to give your opponent a monster.

Art-5/5- I need this storyline to become an anime. That can be said for many of the Yu-Gi-Oh card game storylines, but I love this one.

Until Next Time

Albaz isn’t done yet! This week continues our coverage of the Albaz lore cards, focusing on Dogmatika and Albaz itself for this week’s theme. Light of the Branded is a Quikc Play Spell with a single hard once per turn effect. After targeting a Fusion monster on either side of the field or either Graveyard, you can return it to the Extra Deck then you can Special Summon Fallen of Albaz from your Graveyard, and a monster from your opponent’s Graveyard to their field. The effect feels a little loaded, but the usage is pretty straightforward; it recycles an Albaz Fusion from your Gravayard, then lets you immediately set up a Fusion Summon with Albaz and one of your opponent’s monsters, ideally an Extra Deck monster to summon Mirrorjade the Iceblade Dragon, but any LIGHT or DARK target will also be good. I think Light of the Branded is actually quite good, but as with other Branded cards, it has major competition for being searched. Even if you already have Branded Fusion, Branded Expulsion has become the new weapon of choice after Branded in Red, summoning menacing lockdown monsters like Gimmick Puppet Nightmare to your opponent’s field. It does have a niche use of letting you out enemy Fusion monsters, but this usually won’t come up outside of casual matches. Overall, not a bad card, but it’s hard to compete with the power of other Branded cards.

We finish off the Photon Hypernova side of Albaz lore this week by focusing on Dogmatika and Branded and start with a new Quick-Play for the Branded theme: Light of the Branded.

Light of the Branded is a Quick-Play Spell that lets you target a Fusion on the field or in either graveyard and return it to the Extra Deck to summon a  Fallen of Albaz from your graveyard to your field and any monster from the opponent’s graveyard to their field. I appreciate the card letting you target the opponent’s Fusions as well as being able to use the graveyard if you need. I usually wouldn’t like reviving an opponent’s monster to their field, but in this case you’re reviving Fallen of Albaz, so you’ll likely use said monster you revive as Fusion Material anyways. Hard once per turn on this for balancing purposes as always. It’s a pretty decent card, especially since it can counter other Fusion strategies by bouncing an opponent’s Fusion back while doing what it would already do. It can also recycle the Fusions you send to grave with Mirrorjade. Doesn’t feel necessary for Branded, but it’s a good addition.

Art: 5/5 Just stunning, I feel bad for Albaz for having to see Ecclesia like this.
