Hello Pojo Fans,

Lightsworn Dragonling is a Dragon we knew we’d eventually get: chibi Judgment Dragon.

Lightsworn extender from the hand is something they haven’t had, and when you combine it with it being a Foolish Burial for Lightsworn cards it sets up your grave for the bigger Judgment Dragon, or puts another body on board (Felis, Wulf, Weiss) for Extra Deck plays. Weiss yesterday, and Dragonling today are helping to take away the “Lucksworn” nickname Lightsworn have always carried with them.

If Dragonling gets sent to the grave somehow it is your Dragon searcher for the deck, specifically, 3000ATK/2600DEF. Only two options for you: Judgment Dragon and Punishment Dragon, but that was expected. Punishment Dragon you are likely only playing because of the new Fusion Monster for the archetype, or you are playing a Twilight/Lightsworn combo deck. Most of the time you are searching Judgment Dragon. This card gives Minerva’s first form an easier target to search out if she hits the graveyard (and if you play her).

Extender, another mill for the archetype, and a designated Dragon searcher, Dragonling is the triple threat that may eliminate Beckoning Light from the deck builds all-together. Helpful no matter how you use it, you won’t ever be on the losing end with it, and that makes it a great card design for an archetype that mills a lot.

Ever wonder what Judgment Dragon was like as a baby? Well now we know with Lightsworn Dragonling.

Lightsworn Dragonling is a Level 4 LIGHT Dragon with 1500 ATK and 1300 DEF. So the stats are half of Judgment Dragon, plus it’s a LIGHT Dragon, which is great. First effect Special Summons itself from the hand if there’s a Lightsworn in the graveayrd, which is a condition easily met by the archetype’s high amount of milling it does. A free body for the archetype just for functioning the way it’s supposed to is great, getting you a Level 4 on board for a Synchro or Xyz. Upon being Special Summoned, you can send any Lightsworn from the Deck to the graveyard, besides Dragonling. It’s an instant way to send Wulf or Felis from the Deck to the graveyard for themselves to immediately be revived for Extra Deck plays, or sending Weiss if you have a different Lightsworn you want to revive. Final effect triggers upon being sent to the graveyard, searching for any Dragon with 3000 ATK and 2600 DEF directly from the Deck, basically making itself a searcher for Judgment Dragon and Punishment Dragon, but could also suggest more Dragons in the future for the Deck. Having a searcher for your boss monsters is nice, just hope you didn’t mill the one you needed first, but it’s not the end of the world if one of the two are milled due to Friday’s card. Hard once per turn on each effect. Dragonling is an extender for the Deck that can send more Lightsworns from Deck to grave to extend even more, plus it’s a searcher for your Dragons. It’s almost custom card levels of support, play 3 in Lightsworn.

Our Lightsworn coverage continues with Lightsworn Dragonling, a level 4 LIGHT Dragon monster (ironically, only our second main deck Lightsworn Dragon type monster by name). This gives it remarkable synergy with Chaos Dragons, since you can search it with Starliege Seyfert, though in practice I didn’t find it very useful in my Lightsworn testing; instead, just like with yesterday’s Weiss, it being the only (useful) Dragon Lightsworn means it’s a unique target for tomorrow’s card. Amusingly, Dragonling’s stats are exactly half of its grown-up version, Judgment Dragon, with 1500 attack and 1300 defense. These aren’t good stats, but we can’t expect much from combo pieces.

Dragonling comes with three hard once per turn effects, which again is becoming increasingly common (not that I mind if we’re going to be boosting legacy archetypes!). The first effect simply lets you Special Summon Dragonling from your hand if you have any Lightsworn monster in your Graveyard. While it won’t summon itself on its own (that gripe is for the next effect), it will almost always be live once your combos get off their feet. Dragonling’s second effect triggers if it’s Special Summoned, letting you send any Lightsworn card from your deck to the Graveyard except itself. This is an easy way to bring out Wulf or Felis, though I wish it triggered on Normal Summon as well so that Dragonling is less of a brick if you open it (which is fairly plausible if you play multiple copies). One play with Dragonling is to send both it and Weiss with tomorrow’s card, which instantly sets up another Rank 4 or level 8 Synchro play while searching half of your boss monster. Alternatively, if you somehow have your combo line already in order, you can send Lightsworn Aegis and set it for additional disruption. Finally, if Dragonling is sent to the Graveyard, you can search any Dragon monster 3000 attack and 2600 defense. Surprise surprise, this only searches two monsters: Judgment Dragon, and its sidegrade Punishment Dragon. Neither of them have aged very well, but if your goal is to summon the deck’s new boss, you’ll definitely want to take the opportunity to search it; I’ll get into my grievances when we get to that monster proper. Ratios for this card in pure Lightsworn are tricky, since it doesn’t really do anything if you open it, but it’s good to see more copies milled. Personally I’d still stick to one copy, but you can make a case for three, especially in casual builds.
