Lunalight Leo Dancer – Yu-Gi-Oh! Review

Lunalight Leo Dancer is our Throwback Thursday choice going back to Shining Victories.

You are going to need another of your fusion Lunalight monsters, Lunalight Panther Dancer alongside two more Lunalight monsters to summon this, so already its an investment. That was the case before Lunalight Fusion, which gives you the ability to harness Panther Dancer straight-away and go around all the Fusion Summoning you’d have to do. Now that we’ve got an easy way to summon her, Leo Dancer can protect herself from targeting effects, as well as being destroyed by opponent card effects, awesome. This card needed a big payoff considering we just got Lunalight Fusion and getting to this card was two or more hoops to jump through originally. Second attack with 3500ATK is a great effect for an archetype that has OTK abilities. The nuke your opponents Special Summoned monsters at the end of the Damage Step is one of the best effects and makes this card worthwhile to summon. It goes without saying that your opponent is going to Special Summon unless playing a dedicated anti-meta deck. Doing a Raigeki to their board of monsters at the end of the Damage Step, then getting to hit for a free 3500 after that is overpowering. Not only that, but combined with Crimson Fox, you’d be hitting for 3500 on the first hit, having reduced a monster’s ATK to 0, there’s your OTK ability. This monster may have been hard to summon before, but it made it worthwhile to do so: protection against destruction, protection against targeting, high ATK, high DEF, 2^nd attack potential, and board-wipe ability for Special Summoned monsters each turn.

Leo Dancer is FAR easier to summon now with Lunalight Fusion, and could wreck a board turn one no matter how good a board is. Opponent builds a field with Extra Deck monsters? No problem. Lunalight Fusion, bring out Leo Dancer, using Crimson Fox alongside it, attack a monster who now has 0ATK, wipe their board, attack again, they are left with 1000LP. When Soul Charge was still around move would end players who would do the 5K burn move with Soul Charge.

Offensive powerhouse with protection? Sign me up!. Lunalight Leo Dancer is a Level 10 Dark Beast-Warrior type Fusion Monster with 3500 Atk and 3000 Def. The stats are excellent, so we are off to a great start. Just put two up and go into Gustav if you have the zones and Extra Deck space. She does require Lunalight Panther Dancer and 2 Lunalight monsters to properly Fusion Summon. You also cannot use Fusion Substitute monsters, but that is the balance for a boss. Also, Lunalight Fusion makes that much easier anyway. For the trouble, she is unaffected by the opponent’s targeting effects or destruction effects. Then she can make two attacks every Battle Phase. Finally, if she attacked a monster, you can destroy all your opponent’s Special Summoned monsters. Constructs effect on the whole board is great. 2 attacks with 3500 Atk is better than BLS. All the protection means that this attack is probably going to be game winning, or that it will survive a turn one. Lunalight Leo Dancer and Lunalight Fusion might make for an interesting engine in other decks, but for now, run at least 2 in the Extra Deck of the Lunalight Deck and swing away.

Throwback Thursday this week leads us to the biggest of the Lunalight Fusions, Lunalight Leo Dancer.

Leo Dancer is a Level 10 DARK Beast-Warrior Fusion with 3500 ATK and 3000 DEF. Stats are very good, DARK is strong and Beast-Warrior is fine despite not being a Level 4 or lower main deck monster. The Fusion Materials are Lunalight Panther Dancer and any 2 Lunalight mosnters. Panther Dancer is a Fusion of Cat Dancer and another Lunalight monster while Cat Dancer is just a Fusion of two Lunalights. Don’t worry about going through all of that because as you know now we have Lunalight Fusion to help, or you can use Fusion Tag to treat a monster as Panther Dancer because Leo Dancer must be Fusion Summoned with the above materials (meaning no King of the Swamp) but Fusion Tag will make a monster’s name become Panther Dancer so it counts. You can also use a Panther Dancer that was killed with Lunalight Wolf for a Miracle Fusion, so summoning this isn’t as hard as you might think. Your opponent cannot target this with card effects and it cannot be destroyed by your opponent’s card effects, which is protection I’d hope this would have with those Fusion Materials (no matter how easy it is to facilitate them). This card can make a second attack during each Battle Phase, which is very scary with 3500 ATK. It doesn’t have to be on monsters, either, so that means you can make two 3500 direct attacks if you are able to. If this card attacked a monster, you can destroy all Special Summoned monsters your opponent controls. Clearing your opponent’s board of monsters is great, especially when you do this Leo Dancer will likely have another attack to make. Leo Dancer can cause some big damage against your opponent, especially if you Special Summon a Blue Cat to make this have 7000 ATK. Even though I did say it was easy to summon, you are still investing some resources into summoning this card, but it does pay off. Leo Dancer is a card you want in a Lunalight Extra Deck.

After covering a Fusion card yesterday, it’s appropriate we look at a Fusion Monster for Throwback Thursday.  Lunalight Leo Dancer has had one prior review (link here) and is a Level 10, Dark, Beast-Warrior Monster, with 3500 attack and 3000 defense, both of which are superb.  

Leo Dancer requires Lunalight Panther Dancer specifically, as well as two generic Lunalight Monsters to be Fusion Summoned.  So it can’t be Special Summoned outside of Fusion and you must use the required Monsters (one specific, remember) but for starters, this is immune to Targeting and Destruction by your opponent’s card effects.  That still leaves the small pool of Targeted destruction, of course.

But with the 3500 attack (and 3000 defense) your opponent is likely going to have to find a way to attack and destroy Leo Dancer.  Also featured is a BLS like effect, where it can attack twice in a Battle Phase (not after destroying a Monster, or in a row) but two attacks, which is phenomenal when you’re dealing with attack this high to start with.  That’s going to be trouble very fast for your opponent.

Finally, once per turn, if this card attacked a Monster (not even destroyed, simply attacked) you have the option of destroying all Special Summoned Monsters your opponent controls.  I love this, as long as you attacked, even if your opponent protected it, or the Monster couldn’t be destroyed, you have this option, and it being optional is very good too.  It’s a bit trying for resources to get this out, but well worth it.
