Finally,
Sligh does not need to "Draw the Shock"
to end the game. They can finish you off in
just a couple turns. I see those decks
playing maybe 2 of these, but to know that 2
damage is coming a turn is awful nice. Plus,
makes it a scary proposition if they can draw multiple
cards, or worse, forced to draw multiple
cards. Defaintely playable in both
formats. In limited, it's replenishable
removal - who wouldn't want to draw a shock every
turn in limited?

This is the card
some people are calling the "new Cursed Scroll."
That is an unfair comparison, because (1) Words
of War is red, and is stopped by a CoP: Red, and
(2) You lose your draw each time you do 2
damage.
But is better in a
couple of ways: (1) if you manage to draw more
than 1 card per turn, you can do more than 2
damage, and (2) You lose your draw each time you
do the damage. This is important for things like
Ensnaring Bridge.
Overall, I see this
getting lots of play, as both a finisher in a
Sligh deck and a lock for a Bridge deck.
Unfortunately, it costs 3, so a counterspell
deck has time to stop it, but counters don't
seem as relevant as a fast deck would.
In limited, this is
removal. It also helps you not to be decked,
should the game go that far. So play this if
you're red.

his could wind up
being the best red enchantment ever. For the
mono red player skipping a draw to get an
uncounterable shock whenever you need it is a
good option. I can see many uses for it
particularly against the blue mage. In limited
it is also good but not quite as good as
constructed because you can't really build a
deck around it. I salute the blue heads at R&D
for making this card...now they just need 10 or
so other fine red cards to even things up with
green, blue, and black.

This seems very
typical of red lately. Direct damage cards that
lack the sheer power of cards like incinerate but
are much more fun to use. I can see
powerful decks being made out of all the words,
and this one is no exception.
However, I do think this is the weakest word
because the dedicated red mage doesn't need this
enchantment to get direct damage. However, it does
give the
opportunity to deal 2 damage a turn without
fail. I'll give it a 3.5 in constructed.
Direct damage is good in limited, even if it does
cost you a draw. A 4.5 in limited. |
