Uh.... 'dunno man.
Just seems like one of those totally random cards
that Wizards always does a quota of in each set.
There are tons of cards more deserving of a slot
in a constructed deck for 4 mana. As a one time
loss of 5 life for your opponent (it's going to
happen right off, unless they have an endless
production of token creatures somehow), this card
just says, target opponent loses 5 life.
Maybe in some casual deck, but nothing in serious
decks. In
limited, it's... filler I suppose.

Pillar Tombs of Aku
This card is interesting. It either forces each
player to sacrifice a creature during their
upkeep or pay 5 life to get rid of this. The
sacrifice isn't mandatory - you can take the 5
life it instead. I imagine this would be part of
a cool casual deck that had Breeding Pits and
other token generators in it, but other than
that, since it's only type 1 legal, people will
just play The Abyss instead.
In limited, too random of an effect to rely on.

Pillar Tombs of Aku:
Now this is a card that not too many of the young
players have probably ever
seen. Back in the day of Visions this card was a
beautful way of putting
pressure on the opponent. Late game, when they
usually can't afford the 5
life, it becomes a great re-occuring Diabolic
Edict. You just break it by
playing creatures that don't mind the graveyard
like a cleric with Rotlung
Reanimator out and throw the tough choice right
back at them. Tombs can also
be very powerfull againts Decks with little to no
creatures, with a
guarenteed 5 in their face.
In limited, creature kill=good or 5
life=good.........its good. It would be
just fun to slowly watch all the little guys get
sacked back and forth for a
while until someone bites the 5:) But then again,
good luck finding a
Visions Limited Draft!

Pillar tombs of Aku
"Your opponent loses five life during whichever
upkeep is most convenient to
them." That's what this card reads, at best. For
4 mana, and you not
gaining any life along with it... simply not
strong enough in most decks.
It would be a beat-down card... except it goes
against the beat-down
strategy in general. so there you are.
