Card of the Day

Nightmare Lash - Eh, I think this thing sounds
better than it actually is. Since re-equipping
with it several times will whittle away a lot of
life, it doesn't seem worth the 4 mana cost. In
limited, it would be very doubtful it would be
worth it in sealed because you will usually be
playing 3 colors, and it would take too long to
get enough swamps in play for it to be worth it.
In draft, it might be worth a consideration if you
are heavy or mono black.

Nightmare Lash
An evil card for
mono-black decks. Unfortunately, constructed
mono-black decks have much better things to do
with 4 mana and 3 life, as any aggressive deck
should have their opponent close to dead by the
time they hit 4 mana. So this pretty much rules
this out for constructed.
In limited, however,
this thing is great. I've never been passed it
in draft, so I haven't tried it out myself, but
it seems like it would just be too good if you
had any number of significant Swamps in play.

In Constructed, this thing just doesn't have a
home because the only decks
that have black in them are splashing for it. In
those decks, if you're
playing swamps, there won't be enough to make this
be cost efficient. And
if you're playing Mono Black, you're probably
playing MBC and therefore not
playing too many creatures.
In Limited, this is definitely better as limited
games are much slower.
Pumping is good. I would take it only if I was
going black. I also wouldn'
t switch to black if I saw it as a late pick.

Nightmare Lash
Oh my goodness this
card just cries out to be used in Standard. I love
the equip cost of pay 3 life. Think about the
simple plays of turn 3 Dross Harvester followed by
turn 4 Nightmare Lash. Yes folks that does mean
you have lost 7 life but your opponent is taking 8
damage each turn unless they block and doesn’t
everything pretty much die to 8/8's. Okay it does
have the common drawback of all equipment in that
it is vulnerable to so many different forms of
artifact kill. I would definitely think about
first picking this in a lot of drafts. Even if you
personally don’t like the card you sure don't want
one of the guys next to you having it if you cant
deal with their creature. Once again this is a
piece of equipment that just loves to be on
Spikeshot Goblin.
