Neat
ability - card is still crap. This thing
just costs too much. Make it 3 CC, then it's
better. The problem is, MAYBE too good at 3
CC, and crap at 4. Not sure, but here, it's
only cool to showcase a new ability that no one
will play in constructed.
In limited, it can
first strike, so it's useful. It's decent,
and I would probably play it if I was going red.
Again, it's expensive, but in limited, it's worth
it.

While the idea of
Double Strike is really interesting, in a 2/1
creature, that just isn't so hot. All they have to
do is block it with a 3 power creature, and it
dies. If it was costed at 2, maybe that would be
okay, but it's not worth it at 4 mana. It's
slightly better in limited. You can use it as a
blocking threat that can take out a medium sized
creature. The
one thing I think would be interesting in a fun
deck is to put Double Strikers into a pump deck.
Might of Oaks, Giant Growths, Snarling Undorak,
etc. He could kill almost anything, and if left
unblocked, could do significant damage all on his
own.

By the looks of
this, it looks like Wizards was afraid to make
Double Strike any good. You're effectively
paying 4 for a 4/1. This puts it out of the
reach of any constructed worthy decks, as you
have 2 much better cards to fill your 4 slot in
red. I don't even like this in a casual deck.
In limited, this guy
could be marginally good. The double strike will
hold off the ground weenies. That's about all,
though.

I'm not big on any of the card with double
strike. The ability is so good that it's hard to
make them cost effective to play. I will say
though that is any creatures with double strike
get players, it will probably be this one.
It's reasonable to cast, but it's only a two
power. Right now there are better creatures.
Maybe this guy will still have to wait for his day
in the sun.
