Great in the old 'tog deck.  No, not THAT 'tog - Necratog!  The old school Mirage block deck that wrecked the format.  These guys were the shiznit.  It was all about clearin' the board then whacking your opponent for huge damage.  These days, they're not really as useful and can be quite expensive for a 1/1 that will often die before it does it's thing.  But can we always relive the good 'ole days.

In limited, it's a bomb - a rat bomb to be specific.  This guy can clear house and let you serve, or just wrath out the board and start fresh.   Pretty good at holding the game hostage.

I've gained a new respect for this card after playing it in MTGO limited formats. One of my opponents referred to it as a "Poor-man's Wrath of God". Playing Crypt Rats will bring a quick halt to your opponent playing creatures in most cases. It's kind of like the Infernal Spawn of Evil... "It's coming...!" And you control it. The more Black you're playing, the more useful Crypt Rats can be as you'll have a better chance of setting it off for the X you need to. You don't see it around too much in constructed, but removal of most any kind is always great in limited, especially mass-removal that you can plan around.

Constructed - 3
Limited - 4.5

This is an interesting card. Useful only in a deck that can produce a lot of black mana, it is capable of providing a board clearing effect. However, it is on a fragile (1/1) creature, so at the earliest, this effect is active turn 4, and that gives your opponent one turn to deal with it. There's some good combos for multiplayer, just don't try them in 1v1 Magic.

In limited, this is an effect that can either clear the board or finish off an opponent at times. I'd probably play it if I had it.

Crypt Rats
Actually a card I used a lot in the past, this guy has a couple things going
for him.  He can clear the board, pestilence style, or finish people off,
and most importantly he doesn't tap to do it.  More constructed potential
than he's given credit I think,  but obviously amazing in limited.

Never seen this played either, mind you I've always wanted to spirit link this. HAHAHAHAHA!!!! Well in constructed I used to play this when I was a newbie and
loved it.  It's kinda nostalgic for me to give it a 3.  Now limited its tons better removal rocks!

Crypt Rats - This card is most often used as a very expensive Sorcery but the Rats are super powered and a great deterrent. Perfect for creature matchups but not so good with weak toughness creatures or against non-creature decks.

Constructed - You have access to better cards here and more of a chance to hit non-creature decks - 2.75

Limited - Take this card, mass creature removal is rare and you will want it - 4.00

PEZ (Peasant) - An automatic for most Black builds, mass removal is especially important in this format - 5.00

I could see this being played if its toughness was higher, but other than that there is much better removal spells available in Contructed. Basically it's a one time shot that is vulnerable to Smother and other creature kills. Why not just run Mutilate? There are better things to pick from here.

In Limited it doesn't matter how high it costs, board clearing rules. Nice here.

Limited: 4
