Pojo's Magic The Gathering
Card of the Day
Chris
Gerhardt |
This is a card that, when you really think about
it, takes some time to absorb the possibilities
surrounding it. Hmm... mana pools
don't empty... ooo! no mana burn...
ooo! storing mana up!... OOO!
Big fat X spells or creatures! OOOOOOO!
Disenchant! =(
If this card becomes anything to
any constructed deck, look for white and green to
be packing Naturalize and Disenchant type spells
sideboard regularly...many of them already are
because of Wake and Slide, which may preclude a
deck that would use Upwelling from being birthed
in the first place. We shall see.
In limited, a good thing if you have a lot of
big fatties. But if your opponent has enchantment
removal, look out! You could be burning for a life
threatening amount.
(Hey, if you guys
get a chance, check out our
Website...we just gave it a new look. If you
get a chance, write us and let us know what you
think about it...for instance, what you like about
it, and what you'd like to see improved. Thanks!!)

Don't believe the
hype. Although interesting, this card won't be
any good outside of casual. It costs 4 mana, and
for 4 mana I'd rather either draw some cards or
flip me a busty Angel, thanks. Pay the one more,
and you can reap the sole benefits of the Wake.
There's no X spell
in limited, so other then speeding up to your
fatties, I see no reason to play this. And I see
the opponent getting his one use out of this,
and then getting rid of it anyway before you can
use it.

Upwelling is really
one of the more interesting cards. The critical
consideration is that it effects both players so
your deck better be designed to abuse it. This may
well be a breakthrough card but I think it has
much more potential to be a dud.
Constructed - If you
are going to break it, try to do it here - 2.75
Limited - Building up mana, especially colored
mana, is great in Limited but why not try and
build your deck with a good curve instead? - 2.15 |

Upwelling
This card has "Bad
Things" written all over it. Some crazy combo
deck is going to abuse this card, which is bad
things for the person sitting across from it.
The fear of taking about ten points of mana burn
because of a disenchant effect has me staying
far away from this card.
Limited: Your
opponent gets to take advantage of it first. I
can't see anything good coming from my previous
sentence.

Entertaining? Yes. Functional? Not so much...
even if it just affected
you it's a turn wasted to cast it plus multiple
risky turns building up mana
for whatever you need to cast (risky because all
that mana can burn you if
the enchantment gets disenchanted when you can't
expend it). But your
opponent gets the benefits too... like letting
them always have mana open
for a counterspell, etc.

Upwelling
I think this card is just waiting to
be broke open. It probably would have to be some
G/U deck, with counters and like something else.
Like awakening or seedborn muse, and endless
counter possiblities. Since you can float mana
endlessly you always have the UU to counter. I
might try it with arcane laboratory(it IS in 7th
too) in ext... or SOMETHING I just don't know!!
Someone will come up with something... we'll just
have to see! ( I really hope this card doesn't
doesn't become a dead idea... but somehow I doubt
it won't.)
In limited its useless. You pay 4, then
your opponent gets the chance to charge up first.
No thanks.
Constructed: 3.5 (possibly 4... but it has no uses
yet, plus its a totally original idea of a card.)
