Pojo's Magic The Gathering
Card of the Day

I'm a
fan of the Mangler - I just don't know where it
goes. I don't know if it has much of a place
in the current t2 or even block environment.
The ability to make itself pretty large is nice.
If you have some way of giving it pro-color, it
would be pretty sweet working with Contested
Cliffs. Basically a solid, almost always get
the job done card. On top, it comes down
fast, and it okay at at least an 0/3 wall.
Blue just doesn't do well in beasts, and I don't
think there is the blue in the environment to
support it. Changes in the environment give
this the potential to be pretty darn good, though.
In limited, it's got a
3 Butt and an X power. I play most 2CC X/3's
in limited. Not a reason to play blue, but
no reason to NOT play him if you are.

A really fun card to
play in limited. You never know what you're going
to get, but his ability helps him match any
creature on the board, power-wise. His cost is
right, too. He even blocks 2/2's which is a good
thing in this morph environment. I don't see him
in constructed at all, but he's good times in
limited and at a bargain cost.

Riptide Mangler
An interesting card.
However, that about all I can say about this, as
it requires other creatures to be good.
In limited, it's
about as useful. I would never play this under
any circumstances.

Riptide Mangler
one of blue's better weenies, and the fact that
the power stays that way
without having to pay extra is spiffy. and it's a
beast. 3 toughness for 2
mana plus having the highest power on the board
makes him super-solid in
limited, a first pick in a lot of circumstances,
imho... too bad he's blue.

Riptide Mangler – Well
this is a very interesting card. Basically for 2
mana this card is as powerful as the biggest
creature in play and that effect doesn’t end at
the end of turn either. I would call it a very
strong 2 drop but what do you do if they have a
creature less deck? Better pack some of your own
fatties too.
Constructed – Solid
but his rating will fluctuate with the environment
– 3.35
Limited – Great for
the creature battle and cheap – 3.60 |

Riptide Mangler
A 0/3 for 2cc sounds like a mediocre wall, but
being able to match the biggest creature in play's
power can make this guy huge in a U/G deck with
Might of Oaks or Giant Growth. This thing gets
absolutely freaking amazing with an Elephant Guide
on it. Turn 2: Mangler (0/3), Turn 3: Elephant
Guide (3/6), Turn 4: 6/6 or 9/6 if you have
nothing better to do.
Ltd.: Mangler blocks morph creatures and can
match the power of the biggest fatty on the field.
