Pojo's Magic The Gathering
Card of the Day

Deconstruct - Wizards decided to fix the "free"
spells snafu they created in Saga. In a well tuned
deck, it can help you keep tempo going... "Yeah,
pick off your artifact, and by the way, here's a
creature too."
In limited, it can be
a bit more difficult to manage, but still well
playable and probably necessary in a heavy
artifact environment.

They finally printed
the "free" spells the right way this time. And
in a set that's half artifacts, this is a
mandatory effect to print. Unfortunately for
constructed, this is too narrow of a card to see
play. Green needs to hit both artifacts and
enchantments, and not leave themselves open to
enchantments. If you need more than 4 Artifact
destruction in green, play Tuesday's card.
In limited, like all
of the cards this week, you play this because
half the set is artifacts.

Yay for free spells! Always good when you can
disrupt someone's game
without breaking your stride. In constructed, i'm
wagering this puppy'll be
quite the nuissance... turn 3 stone rain and
still dropping your troll
ascetic is pretty nice. In limited, it kills
artifacts, so of course it's
good. Even better early on, when it's still a
tempo thing.

Oops, I already
spoke about this. Its like the ability you find
on rewind, where you get to untap lands, only
the difference is you get green mana, so it is
possible to get silvos out or something with
only one green mana. But most likely, you will
only mana burn yourself.
Combo with cathodian
for a turn 4 silvos.

Here, I want to share this fun combo with you:
Turn 1: Forest, Birds of Paradise
Turn 2: Forest, Cathodion
Turn 3: Forest, Deconstruct Cathodion. 6 in pool,
then tap the forest
for 7 mana in your pool to play a Plated Slagwurm
on turn 3.
These free spells are very good, although you
never want to use them unless
you can use up the mana. If are not shooting for a
speedy cast fatty, then
go with Naturalize, its an instant, cheaper, and
you dont have to use up 3
mana afterwards.

Deconstruct is a great
card in Mirrodin Block green! On turn 3, you could
destroy one of your opponent's equipment and play
a Viridian Shaman or Troll Ascetic in the same
turn. In T2, it doesn't pack the same punch
because artifacts aren't as dominant. It's just a
sideboard card there. In Mirrodin Limited, it is
also great if you play 2 or more colors, and you
only have one green-producing land out, you can
deconstruct an Empyrial Plate or Bone Splitter and
play a spell that costs double or triple green.
