Hmm... very cool
artwork. Donato Giancola is one of my favorite
artists. His work is so realistic on one hand, and
then he adds a richness to his depictions that
really attracts me. It's funny.. with
certain artists, you can look at a card and say...ooo,
I like that artwork, then you look at the artist's
name, and again, it's an artist that you favor....anywho...
An interesting
possible addition to Wizard decks. You really have
to build a decent Wizard Tribal deck to make this
card work, but if you could, it would be dang
good. You could really slow your opponent
down, and make them afraid to cast anything of
importance without having enough open mana to
counter the counter, so to speak.
In limited, it's
almost hopeless. You usually can't get enough of a
tribal force together to make a difference, plus
you could be hurt by the triple blue.

The reason all of
the Onslaught block wizards had their power
greatly reduced, as it was romored that a wizard
deck was tearing up the FFL (the playtest league
where they test cards in sets a year from now at
Wizards). It was too late to change this card,
as it had already gone to print. So they had to
change all the Onslaught cards instead. A shame
too, as there are plenty of ways to keep the
Wizard deck in check.
Still, people play
with this guy, and he is good for stalling the
game out. Makes it impossible for you to cast
anything.
In limited, I
wouldn't play with him, although he isn't as
horrible as the rest of the cards we've reviewed
this week.

Mildly better than your average force-spike mage,
and way important for the
wizards deck... too important, in fact, for there
not to be a way to fetch
him, imho. In limited his triple blue makes him a
bit too intensive for a
not-strong-enough effect in general

Oh, those annoying wizards. And I believe this is
the best of them all.
Patron Wizard hands all your wizards their very
own Force Spike! Whats not
to like? Its a solid 2/2 body with a wonderfull
ability. Again, like the
Elvish Succession, Wizards are not the greatest
among sligh, zombies, and
the such, but are wonderfull in casual. Plop this
sucker down turn 3 and
your opponent will be hard pressed to do as they
please. I've added a little
spin to my own wizard deck, which would be the
Supreme Inquisitor. I'll use
his ability with the tons of wizards I've played
to slowely remove important
cards from my opponents library, while decking him
at the same time.
