Snakesssss
10.18.04
Hello, Hi my name is Adam and i
ran across your webpage while browsing for deck ideas
and ways to pump up my own and thought perhaps you could
help me out. Anyways here's the idea behind my deck. I
try to get out as many creatures as possible as fast as
possible and then pump them up with coat of
arms and the Serpant Legends.
Heres what I've got so far:
Mana: 20 Forest
Creatures:
Seshiro, the Annointed 1
Sachi, Daughter of Seshiro 2
Sosuke, Son of Seshiro 2
Sakura-Tribe Elder 1
Shisato, Whispering Hunter 1
Kashi-Tribe Warriors 2
Matsu-Tribe Decoy 2
Kashi-Tribe Reaver 3
Orochi Sustainer 4
Orochi Leafcaller 4
Orochi Ranger 3
Mystic Snake 2
Thieving Magpie 2
Non-Creature Spells/Enchantments:
Serpant Skin 2
Spidersilk Armor 1
Time of Need 2
Shyshroud Claim 2
Artifacts:
Konda's Banner 1
Orochi Hatchery 2
Junkyo Bell 1
Sensei's Divining Top 1
Coat of Arms 1
I put in the birds for card acceleration and the
skyshroud claims for the obvious mana acceleration, if
you know of any ways to re-vamp this deck it would be
much appreatiated thank you in advance for the help ill
be checkin your site for updates bye
The first thing I would like to do to this deck is add
in the Best Snake Ever Printed. Yes, so good, it comes
in capital letters. I’m talking about River Boa. For 1G,
Adam, you will get a 2/1 creature with Islandwalk and G:
Regenerate.
+4 River Boa
Next, since I noticed some of the Snakes were a bit
hefty in price, I think Sakura-Tribe Elder might be a
great addition to the deck (well, three more anyways),
and it will allow us to get rid of Skyshroud Claim. Why
play Claim when you can get a card that has a similar
ability, but allows Adam to have a dude late in the game
when he doesn’t need any more acceleration.
-2 Skyshroud Claim
+3 Sakura-Tribe Elder
Kamigawa’s flip cards, for the most part, are
unimpressive to me, but Orochi Eggwatcher seems like it
could easily be a problem to deal with. Creating a snake
each turn isn’t awful, but when it becomes a Giant
Growth machine, opponents will need to find a way to end
the game quickly.
+3 Orochi Eggwatcher
I wouldn’t mind seeing another Seshiro the Anointed in
Adam’s deck – he could be a huge benefit, and he grants
a lot of card advantage.
+1 Seshiro the Anointed
I’m not too sure I’m liking the presence of blue in
Adam’s deck. Thieving Magpie is OK, as is Mystic Snake,
but neither is an amazing addition. I think consistency
might be a better value over variety, so…
-2 Mystic Snake
-2 Thieving Magpie
I am definitely a fan of Orochi Ranger, and although it
isn’t Llanowar Elves, Orochi Sustainer isn’t completely
awful. I’m throwing in a fourth Ranger, and the
Sustainer will sustain its position within Adam’s deck.
Orochi Leafcaller, however, doesn’t really have a role
in Adam’s deck any more.
-4 Orochi Leafcaller
+1 Orochi Ranger
I definitely like Sachi and Sosuke, the spawn of Seshiro
(Daughter and Son, respectively), so I think two of each
is appropriate.
Kashi-Tribe Reaver seems acceptable, especially since it
has regeneration. Kashi-Tribe Warriors, however, seem
overcosted for a 2/4 with a mediocre ability. So…
-2 Kashi-Tribe Warriors
+1 Kashi-Tribe Reaver
Finally (for creatures), I am going to cut loose Shisato,
Whispering Hunter and Matsu-Tribe Decoy. The Decoy seems
overcosted (like the Kashi-Tribe Warriors) for a so-so
ability, and Shisato is decent if you can pull him off,
but I don’t think that will happen too often.
-2 Matsu-Tribe Decoy
-1 Shisato, Whispering Hunter
If I am going to play a green creature enchantment in a
fun deck, the first card I am going to look is Rancor. I
ask myself two questions, “Is every creature in this
deck so big that an enchantment doesn’t matter?” and “Is
Rancor legal?” The first answer is no, the second is
yes, so…
-2 Serpant Skin
-1 Spider-Silk Armor
+4 Rancor
Looking at where we stand right now, I think Adam has
room for six more non-land cards. I definitely like
Konda’s Banner, especially with six (possibly nine)
legends in this deck. A +2/+2 bonus across the board
doesn’t seem awful, so why don’t we up the Banner-count
by one.
+1 Konda’s Banner
I’m down with Orochi Hatchery being in the deck – it is
a Snake theme, after all – but I’m not so sure I like
Junkyo Bell or Sensei’s Divining Top. I started to cut
Coat of Arms, but giving it a second thought, I can’t
really think of a great reason *not* to have it in the
deck.
-1 Junkyo Bell
-1 Sensei’s Divining Top
+1 Coat of Arms
For land, I’ve upped the total count to 23, since Adam
is a *bit* high on the mana curve for just 20 land. I’m
throwing in four Treetop Village, just on the grounds
that it can be another source of damage. I know its not
a snake – it’s just too good to pass up. I’ve also
thrown in Tranquil Thicket, so if Adam draws up too much
land, he can at least throw it away for another card.
-5 Forest
+4 Tranquil Thicket
+4 Treetop Village
I think that finishes the work on Adam’s deck. Take a
look…
CREATURES (25):
3 Orochi Eggwatcher
4 Orochi Ranger
4 Orochi Sustainer
4 River Boa
2 Sachi, Daughter of Seshiro
4 Sakura-Tribe Elder
2 Seshiro the Anointed
2 Sosuke, Son of Seshiro
NON-CREATURE SPELLS (12):
2 Coat of Arms
2 Konda’s Banner
2 Orochi Hatchery
4 Rancor
2 Time of Need
LAND (23):
15 Forest
4 Tranquil Thicket
4 Treetop Village
I hope that helps, Adam, and good luck! I’ll see y’all
next week!
