Last Dance For Suicide Black
I really, really, really
recommend you keeping any decks that you might
seriously consider using under wraps until either you
don't qualify or after
the invitational rather than posting it on pojo. I'd
doubt if any of the
competitors are going to get in any serious playtesting.
Giving them a heads
up on any kind of deck tech would be a serious
disadvantage.
I hope you qualify. Keep in mind that you might have won
the invitational
last year if you'd used my "Hey Nice Hat" card
suggestion. <g>
The terra-forming cards are almost irresistable and many
of the cards in the
format are expensive. That combination means probably
several of the decks
in the field are going to be slow. Getting a couple of
random wins under
your belt could be good.
Deck name: Last Dance for Suicide Black
Black creatures
4 Nightfall Hag (when this comes into play, discard hand
at EOT)
4 Decaying Corpse (opponent's max hand size -1)
4 Albino Serpent (opponent's max hand size -2)
4 Blood Crow (revamped Priest of Gix)
4 Mogouls (2/2 swampwalk)
4 Gidah (3/3 without much of a drawback)
2 Tombstone Guard (3/3)
Artifact creatures
4 Cyborg Replicant (2/2 that gets by pro-black
creatures)
Black spells
4 Dark Ritual
2 Vengence (removal)
4 Prejudicial Extermination (removal)
Land
20 Swamp
4 Zaire's Touch (vs black, weenie, or artifact decks)
2 Full Color Nightmare (vs rainbow decks)
4 Null Soldier (vs tricky decks)
1 Vengeance
4 Crystal of Normalcy
Both Nightfall Hag and Prejudicial Extermination require
you to discard your
hand. Usually suicide black doesn't have much in hand
anyway so its not much
drawback after you drop your hand into play.
There's not any good creature enhancers in the set so I
ran extra creatures
instead of trash like Shade Skin.
I didn't include Corrosive Rats. Your other creatures
are likely to knock
out your opponent's hand which will let him
automatically counter this at no
penalty.
I considered Unworthy Sacrifice as removal. If it wasn't
an instant, I'd
probably have used it. But giving your opponent instant
speed removal for
one colorless mana doesn't seem like a good idea. What
good does removing a
potential blocker do if it only lets your opponent
remove the attacker? I'd
rather take the chance my opponent won't block. Its not
often I look at a
card and think to myself "Gee, if only this card
were a sorcery instead of
an instant".
There's also not much disruption in black or artifact
and none of it is
cheap/effective enough to run in suicide black except
Crystal of Normalcy.
Ritual then "Meddling Mage for every rare in your
deck" is a strong first
play. Usually "played" means "cast"
so I don't know if it applies to
terra-formed cards when played as land. If it does, I'd
seriously consider
maindecking it.
Turn 1
Swamp cast Dark Ritual then Blood Crow, Blood Crow,
Albino Serpent,
Nightfall Hag. End of turn discard the rest of your hand
(1 card) because of
the Hag.
Opponent's turn 1
Draw. Lay terraformed land. Done and discard 2 cards
because of the Albino
Serpent.
You might not get that good of a draw every time but I
think the opponent's
draw might be typical in the format.
