R/W in IBC

I remember when I started playing magic that R/W Jank (back in Tempest block) was the best deck to draft. Pants and more pants! Today we'll look at a color combination that hasn't happened in a long, long time.

We have several cards that are just great in this new set for R/W. Desolation Giant is an obvious amazing card for a R/W deck, control or not. Goblin Legionarre is amazing in every deck. Remember paying 4 for shock troops? Goblin Trenches might be useful in the right deck, as would Squee's Embrace, and what about Powerstone Minefield?

We're going to start with beatdown, of course.

1cc
4x Assault/Battery

2cc
4x Goblin Legionarre
4x Rage Weaver
4x Spirit Weaver

3cc
2x Goblin Trenches
4x Ghitu Fire
4x Urza's Rage

4cc
4x Skizzik
3x Flametongue Kavu

5cc
3x Tahngarth, Talruum Hero

3x Rith's Grove
10x Mountain
6x Plains
1x Keldon Necropolis
4x Battlefield Forge

You could even go with a lower curve:

1cc
4x Assault/Battery
4x Dega Disciple

2cc
4x Goblin Legionarre
4x Rage Weaver
4x Spirit Weaver
4x Maniachal Rage
4x Squee's Emrbace

3cc
2x Goblin Trenches
4x Ghitu Fire
4x Urza's Rage

4x Battlefield Forge
2x Rith's Grove
10x Mountain
6x Plains

Every one of the decks I've supplied so far has not had very much 'enchantment/artifact removal'. This is due to an unknown metagame. Obviously you can temper the decks based to the metagame you expect to see.

1cc
4x Assault/Battery

2cc
4x Goblin Legionarre
4x Star Compass

3cc
3x Ghitu Fire
4x Urza's Rage
2x Goblin Trenches

4cc
4x Voice of All
2x Breath of Darigaaz

5cc
3x Tahngarth, Talruum Hero
3x Rout

6cc
3x Desolation Giant

9x Mountain
8x Plains
2x Rith's Grove
1x Keldon Necropolis
4x Battlefield Forge

This is some serious control. I can easily see this deck being played (probably dropping a rage or a fire and adding some enchantment/artifact removal). And Powerstone Minefield might make an excellent sideboard card against rush decks.

Now we're done with the off-color decks (at least for now) and we'll be moving into strategies that have not changed much since they were played in Tokyo. I'll start with some G/R beats, the best deck of Pro Tour and see if it has gotten any better?

Until then,
