IBC R/G
Red Green beats is the best deck that came out of PT Tokyo. It may not have 'won' the tournament, but it got more people into the top 8 and also had a better performance than the 'solution' did in the main tournament. Here's the decklist of Ryan Fuller who went undefeated in the main tournament. 10x Forest 2cc 3cc 4cc Obviously this deck wants to get to 5 mana so that it can pop out things that are giant sized, so 24 lands is very appropriate. I think the deck as listed is fairly perfect. Apocalypse added nothing to this decktype. Shivan Wurm is very tempting in this deck, but the amount of removal availble makes it less worthwhile. You might not believe it, but we do have new g/r decks to look at. Elves is an obvious deck that didn't see much play, probably because people don't feel it's viable. I honestly think it is a viable decktype because it punishes poor draws by your opponents and also has very few mana problems. 1cc 2cc 3cc 4cc 4x Shivan Oasis This is a variation on what I played at the Event Horizon's Invitational. This deck is all about laying down the beats and sealing the deal with some burn or a nice Bend or Break. You could also utilize the new magnify if you wanted, but I don't think its necessary at all. The main difference between this deck and the g/r beast that dominated a pro tour is that this can handle collective restraint. Wax/Wane is extremely important in this deck, saving your Elvish Champion from burn and also eliminating pesky enchantments. We can finally make a decent Kavu deck, although I still don't think they are 'the best' by any means. 2cc 3cc 4cc 11x Forest I've gone up a land because the average casting cost is a bit higher. And a totally new decktype to come out of Apocalypse, Penumbra-Obliterate, I'll take a look at below. 2cc 3cc 5cc 8cc 4x Geothermal Crevice Hell if I know if this version of the deck will be any good or not. I think that the sideboard would be worried about weenie beatdown and controlling that, maybe with some earthquake action in the form of Breath of Darigaaz. The final deck I'm going to cover is R/G land destruction. I love land destruction and in the new IBC format, it might be very powerful. 2cc 3cc 4cc 5cc 4x Tinder Farm Breath of Darigaaz is necessary because you're not going to last against weenie decks. Yes its going to kill off your Familiars but you have to be able to get rid of the small guys of your opponent before they do you in. Fires of Yavimaya is a good deck in standard because it allows for turn 4 kills. It combos with Blastoderm and Saproling Burst. It doesn't combo with anything here though and is almost like wasting a turn that you could be killing a creature or laying one of your own. And, I've been accused of being in love with Elvish Champion. My question is, why shouldn't I be? Next time we'll talk about my second favorite deck from Tokyo, the B/R deck. Until then,
