A Slipped Disk Correction: Well, I ask for everyone to write in on an error, and boy, did you respond. The problem answer from last column: >>>Q: If I have an active Nevinyrral's Disk and Feldon's Cane in play. Is there any way to activate the Disk and Cane in order to put all the cards destroyed by the Disk back into my library (minus the Cane)? A: No.<<< 5 of you all wrote in, pointing out that the player can activate the Cane before the Disk, resulting in everything first being destroyed, and then your graveyard (with all of the destroyed permanents) being shuffled in. I just have one thing to say here. Derf. Sorry. --- Moving on ... Short Answers: -I (generally) can not answer any questions about a format that is not a sanctioned format, as there are generally not "official" rules (from Wizards) to support it. -The last time you can tap an attacker to prevent it from attacking is in the Beginning of combat step, in the Combat Phase. Tapping (or untapping) a creature after it attacks won't make it stop attacking. --- Q: If my opponent plays a spell with Storm and I counter it, the copies still remain, but can I counter the Storm with Stifle? A: Yes. Storm is a triggered ability. --- Q: If I can, does it take one Stifle to counter them all or one for each? -Pyro A: It just takes one Stifle to prevent all copies from being put on the stack. --- Q: How would cards like Eladamri's Vineyard and Thran Turbine work with Upwelling? -Scott A: Pretty much like tapping lands for mana works with Upwelling. On the Turbine, however, even if you store the mana with Upwelling, you will be unable to use that mana to play spells. The mana carries the restrictions on use at all times. --- Q: If someone targets a Morphling, for instance, then he declares the Morphling untargetable with its ability, what happens? -Dark A: The spell or ability that targeted the Morphling is countered, if the Morphling is the only target. --- Q: Let's say I use a Parallel Thoughts, and I put seven instants in the pile. Can I Cunning Wish for them? -JM A: No. Even though you know they are all instants, they are removed from the game face down. This means you can't look at them. Thus, the game has no way to verify they are instants. So the only Wish that could retrieve cards removed by Parallel Thoughts is Death Wish. --- Tournament Report - FNM - Diamond Bar, CA - 2nd place Wake 3 Exalted Angel 2 Memory Lapse 4 Counterspell 4 Compulsion 3 Deep Analysis 3 Cunning Wish 4 Renewed Faith 4 Wrath of God 2 Mirari's Wake 3 Moment's Peace 2 Mirari 10 Island 3 Forest 3 Plains 3 Brushland 4 Krosan Verge 3 Skycloud Expanse Sideboard: 1 Ray of Revelation 1 Ray of Distortion 2 Circular Logic 1 Chastise 2 Seedtime 1 Moment's Peace 1 Opportunity 1 Elephant Ambush 1 Flash of Defiance (yes, more on this in a moment...) 1 Krosan Reclamation 2 Reprisal 1 Mana Short Round 1 - Scott N. - Beasts Game 1 - I keep a hand of 3 land, only one of which produces white, and two Wraths. I don't draw another land until my last turn, and it doesn't produce white. Sideboard: Nothing. Game 2 - I keep a 2 land hand, with 3 Renewed Faiths. We get into an Angel stare-down, and when he drops a second Angel, I Wrath. Eventually, he asks to see a Wrath, I show it to him, and he concedes. Game 3 - He gets out an early creature rush, and I top-deck a Wrath. I then go on to play 2 Angels, and manage to attack while holding a Moment's Peace and a Cunning Wish,, and win the game. I comment on how I had the "Flash of Insight" if he decided to recur his Exalted with his Genesis (he only had 1 white mana all game, however, so he couldn't flip it). I show him the card, and we have a good laugh on how I've put the wrong card in my board, and I have no way to Wish for Flash of Defiance (it's a sorcery), never mind needing a red mana to cast it. Games: 2-1, Matches: 1-0 Round 2 - Kevin - Zombies/Clerics Kevin had the bye round 1. Game 1 - I mulligan a hand of 3 Island, 2 Moment's Peace, Cunning Wish, and Wrath. He gets out an early Headhunter, and starts tearing my hand apart. I drop Mirari on turn 5, and Mirari a Flashbacked Deep Analysis turn 6, going to 5. He then cycles 2 Gempalm Polluters, dropping me to 1, and attacks. I notice I only have a Brushland for green mana, and so I can't stay alive. Sideboard: Nothing Game 2 - I keep a hand with 2 land, and miss my turn 3 land drop. However, I get back up to speed next turn, since I have a Verge out, and Wrath away his team. Mirari turn 5 again, along with Wake a couple of turns later, makes it all over but the attacking. Game 3 - He gets mana screwed. Only one Swamp, and 3 land total, with a bunch of stuff that requires double black in his hand. Games: 4-2, Matches: 2-0 Round 3 - Phillip S. He's playing his same deck from last week. I'm playing down, since there are 3 undefeated going into this round, and Sam (Sligh) is playing Marshall (Wake) in the undefeated matchup. Game 1 - He decides to let me go first. Mirari, double Exalted, blah, blah, blah. And he never drew any of his enchantments. Sideboard: Nothing. Game 2 - He mulligans his first hand, and keeps a one land hand. His deck doesn't cough up another land until like turn 4 or 5. Angel beatings commence early. Games: 6-2, Matches: 3-0 Phillip comments on "how (he) should really change decks." You've done all right, except when you've faced me. If you want to play a different deck next week Phillip, let me know, and I'll let you borrow my U/G deck. Anyway, Marshall wins, and I just scoop to him, since I really don't want to play the mirror, and he won't take a draw, since he's concerned about his rating. We're both in top 4 anyway. Round 4 - Marshall - Mirror Games: 6-4, Matches: 3-1. Ben (beasts) beats Sam, and Sugrim (LD) beats the person he's playing. We decide to split to 12 packs 4 ways, and play one game for the ratings. I beat Ben, Marshall beats Sugrim and then me again. See you Thursday. Bill Guerin DCI Level 2 Judge
