The field wasn't too large today. However, it was very competitive. Some out of town regulars even made the trip to Waco. An interesting fact to note is that Fires decks were still in full effect. Other than the fires decks, most of the other decks ere different. We saw a variety of decks played from U/W/R control to B/W landkill. I get to brag on myself for a second here, because I was the only player to go undefeated on the day. I posted an impressive 5-0 record. We split the prizes in the round of four. My odds were good though as I had already beaten Jeff Zandi and Zach Karthauser in swiss rounds. They were two of the other three competitors in the final four. The other unknown being Rob Lawing. Khai Ha took the tournament to show that merfolk, as always, are still in. He was able to maneuver his way to the top eight with his deck. I think this new environment will stay variable. There were both creatureless decks and beatdown decks. There was one combo-ish deck. With this much variability, the field looks to very entertaining for weeks to come, if not months. This tournament was a good setup for our cash event next weekend, July 7th 2001. By the way, that's my birthday, so if you attend the event, come bearing gifts J Anyway, most of you are checking this out for deckslists anyway, so here are the top eight decks and bracketing… Quarterfinals Semifinals DeQuan Watson Bud Schreiber DeQuan Watson Normally I would post my deck here, but after such a
