Suicide Black in the new
Type II
If
there is one deck that I am determined to revive it is suicide black.
I have designed version after version, scoured the net and spent
countless tournaments (well, just one) playing it.
Most say it is dead for the time being and that I should find some other
way to consume this boring summer vacation.
Well I say I don’t give a rat’s ass what they think, I’m going to
build my lame ass black deck and I’m going to smash their face in to the
ground with it.
Here’s
a version I found at mtgplanet.com:
4
maggot carrier
4
blood pet
4
foul imp
4
phyrexian scuta
4
chimeric idol
4
duress
4
unmask
4
dark ritual
4
unholy strength
4
snuff-out
20
swamps
One
thing bothered me in particular with this deck’s design: the unmasks.
Granted, they are a very good discard spell that can help you a lot in
early turns against counterspells, but in a deck where the card disadvantage is
already so terrible, the discard a card in the casting cost can only make things
worse.
This
one I found at I-gaming.com
2
phyrexian scuta
1
ascendant evincar
2
delraich
1
agent of shauku
2
rathi intimidator
1
rathi fiend
4
cateran persuader
2
cateran brute
2
molting harpy
2
rampant crawler
1
persecute
4
dark ritual
2
unholy strength
2
dark triumph
4
tangle wire
2
snuff-out
4
duress
2
rishidan port
18
swamps
My
first thought about this deck was that it was built on a budget, but after
looking it over a second time, I saw the ports and scutas and realized that that
wasn’t the case. It seems more to
be a teched out version with a mercenary chain to help out with the card
disadvantage that was usually the downfall of these types of decks.
I still deem the deck crappy even though it finished in the top 8 of
whatever tournament it came from
This
deck I found at starcity.com
4
phyrexian battle flies
4
foul imp
3
agent of shauku
3
spineless thug
4
phyrexian scuta
4
chimeric idol
4

4
tangle wire
4
dark ritual
4
snuff-out
4
unholy strength
3
rishidan port
19
swamps
This
is by far my favorite of the three decks. It
seems to have been tested quite a bit as his article describes.
It features the tangle wires, which I feel are a very important tool in
the late-early to mid-game to force a couple more attacks in.
It’s just a shame that drain life isn’t still around, and I refuse to
splash white because that would only cause the deck to lose focus.
The one thing that I don’t like about the deck though would have to be
the lack of maggot carriers, which I and many others feel is black’s best
one-drop since carnophage. Without
further ado, here is my decklist

As
for you cheap skates out there, don’t think I forgot about you.
I used to be one of you, and I think it’s important that you realized
that you can be competitive without rares.

The
mana curve on this bad boy doesn’t go above two, so you could probably squeeze
out a couple of swamps and throw in some parallax dimentias or hate weavers or
something.
I
hope I proved that I am the best deck builder on the planet.
Because I am after all, the self proclaimed smartest person in the world.
