Kavu Unite
by Scott Arko

Hey all you at Pojo, I have a new deck idea called "Kavu Unite." It uses Kavu to deal massive amounts of damage quickly, with the Monarch for a finisher. It may not be the strongest deck you will ever play, but hey, its good. As last time, the strategy will be more deeply explored after the list.

4 Birds of Paradise
3 Kavu Titan
3 Kavu Monarch
4 Horned Kavu
2 Sparkcaster

4 Invigorate
3 Thunderclap
4 Shock
3 Ghitu Fire
3 Fires of Yavimaya
4 Assault/Battery
3 Chimeric Idol

4 Karplusan Forest
7 Mountain
9 Forest

The deck is just about the same as any other non-fires deck you'll see. It uses big creatures and mana production, along with plenty of red burn. But this deck has an interesting twist- it uses the new race of Kavu to deal damage. Horned Kavu and un-kicked Kavu Titans rule the board early. The best thing about the Titans in this deck is the fact that Horned Kavu and Sparkcaster can return them to your hand so that they can be played kicked. In the end game, the Monarch can be used in conjunction with Horned Kavu. Horned Kavu can return itself to your hand and be played repeatedly, allowing for a massive Monarch.
The noncreature spells arent bad either. Invigorate charges up the Kavu that are about to be killed, Thunderclap/Shock/Ghitu Fire can be used to pave the way, Assault/Battery can help you on different occasions, Fires of Yavimaya can speed things up, and Chimeric Idol can attack against control decks.
The deck was made perfectly legal for the standard environment, so do not question my choices.

Sideboard

1 Chimeric Idol
4 Gaea's Herald
3 Flametongue Kavu
3 Breath of Darigaaz
4 Troll-Horn Cameo

The Sideboard is straightforward.
Control-Chimeric Idol and Gaea's Herald
Rebel- Breath of Darigaaz
Blastogeddon- Troll-Horn Cameo
Big creature, nonarchetype decks- Flametongue Kavu

Once again, farewell...

Good Luck!
