After I started playing Magic again, I picked up my
fist pack of Apocalypse. My rare -Vindicate, was something of a shock, but
the card that just begged me to build a new deck was Supress
The card reads
Target player removes all cards in his or her hand
from the game face down. At the end of that players next turn, that player
returns all cards to his or her hand.
It doesn't seem like a whole lot of power, with
it's casting cost of three. But in the proper deck, it basically say
to take an additional turn.
The first card that it combo's nicely with is
Avatar of Will. A 5/6 uncounterable creature in play the third turn?
I'll take that.
Unfortunately, that combo is too fragile to build a
solid deck around. If you take a slower pace and go with some
disruption, the deck flows great.
So... some support cards to go with
Supress. I started with Duress. Hand disruption is always
good. With the deck falling towards a slow, black based control design,
and seeing how I still wanted to run the Avatar for the kill, Spite/Malice makes
the cut.
4 Supress
4 Duress
4 Spite/Malice
2 Avatar of Will
14 cards do not make a deck, however. So the
next step is other control elements and library manipulation.
4 Counterspell (I didn't have any
undermines)
4 Brainstorm
4 Fact or Fiction
2 Yawgmoths Agenda (This card is sickening. I
could write sever pages on the agenda)
So, the deck now has 8 counter spells, 10
sources of library manipulation 8 hand disruptions spells, and 2 sources of
damage.
4 Thrashing Whumpass
2 Soul Link
So the final deck looks like:
4 Supress
4 Duress
4 Spite/Malice
2 Avatar of Will
4 Counterspell
4 Brainstorm
4 Fact or Fiction
2 Yawgmoths Agenda
4 Thrashing Whumpass
2 Soul Link
4 Dark Ritual
4 City of Brass
4 Salt Marsh (Underground river works good too)
7 Island
7 Swamp
I've only has a chance to playtest the deck a couple of times so
far. It beat Fires (Once, but hey, every deck has a starting
point). Rebel gave it a fit, but it whooped all over a static orb.
So, I hope I have shown a little light on Supress. I hope to continue
to refind the deck, and make it the best deck it can be.
Thank you all for taking time out of your day to read my message.
