Hello again folks. It' time to look at
Storm Cauldron.
For thos of you who (I kow there is a lot) don't
know what storm cauldron does here is the summary.
5 casting cost, artifact.
Each player may play one additional land each
turn. Whnever a land is tapped for mana, return that land to it's owner's
hand,
The card seems to have some serious drawbacks, but
I'm going to try to break it today. It's first abailty is great.
kepp dropping those land into play! But it;s the second abailty that makes
the card shine.
Land destrction got you hosed? Counter those
stone rains for a measly 1 life. Need two colored mana, but only have one
of the appropiate kand in play? Tap it and redrop it.
So, then what cards go good with the
cauldron. My first choice would be Exploartion. Then you can play
3-6 lands in one turn. Wow. Then, combine that with Horn of
Greed. Draw a card for each land that you play (Remember, 2-6 a
turn!). I know that yout opponent gets almost the same benefit, but the
rest of the decks gonna stop that.
Going with my current trend of control decks,
Pendrell mists seems almost unfair for this deck to have. Each crature has
an upkeep if 1 colorless mana? Hee hee hee. Now, lets add to the fun with
Propaganda.
Here's the deck so far:
4 Storm Cauldron
4 Horn of Greed
4 Exploration
4 Propaganda
2 Pendrall Mists
Now, we need the kill cards. Iron maiden is
an almost perfect fit. Your opponent(s) can either not cast spells, and
take damage from the maiden, or they can cast spells and take damage from the
maiden anyway! Multani, Maro Sorcerer Is also a good fit, and he's a very
durable creature to boot. For defense, we gotta have a couple of counter
spells to make your opponent cry (I really dont like doing that, but it is kinda
worth it.)
So, now we add:
3 Iron Maiden
3 Multani, Maro Sorcerer
4 Mana Leak
4 Force of Will
4 Wall of Blossoms
So the final deck looks like:
4 Storm Cauldron
4 Horn of Greed
4 Exploration
4 Propaganda
3 Pendrall Mists
3 Iron Maiden
3 Multani, Maro Sorcerer
4 Mana Leak
4 Force of Will
4 Wall of Blossoms
4 Tropical Island
2 City of Brass
2 Reflecting pool
4 Yavinmaya Coast
6 Forest
5 Island
This deck worked really well for me the last time I
built it. It handled the really popular deck at the time (Which was the
mono blue High tide deck. I still hate that deck) with little problem.
High tide could not get it's combo goind if it didn't have aby lands in
play. It flat out wreaks creature horde decks, who are left with the
option of paying to keep their creatures in play and not being able to attack
you, or not playing those creatures so you don't even have to worry about
them. Only Super fast sligh or hatred decks really give it fits, but the
sideboard can be customized for the metagame of your area.
One final note. This deck rocks in
Multi-Player Magic. I'll attack with my 30/30 Multani.
Thanks again for reading this.
