Hello Pojo Fans,

It may be November, but we’re doing a Spellcaster support week for Halloween, starting things with a new card: Magician’s Salvation.

RoTA Field Spell for Eternal Soul, something any Dark Magician deck cannot be without, and this card is now a direct way of getting to it instead of using your Magician’s Rod to get it. That is the main reason people will be playing this card. As for the Special Summoning ability from the grave, that will only pertain to players playing at least one DMG. You play one because you try and get more from Soul Servant, or you just really like her and the support has gotten better. You are already Special Summoning Dark Magician or “Dark Magician” on a regular basis in the deck with Eternal Soul or something along those lines, so why not get another monster for your trouble? Now Special Summoning Dark Magician, then using something Bond Between Teacher and Student to get to DMG, and then get another DM from your grave, that’s a big push for game right there and can be easily accessible with the tons of support within the archetype.

Good way of searching Eternal Soul and a decent way to get another monster on the field as long as you can loop the two. This goes hand-in-hand with Magicians’ Combination. I like it, but I’m not sure it’d be the best Field Spell for the deck to play. Main Deck sure, but Side Deck is a place Secret Village of the Spellcasters still could see play.

Mega Tin time and we do have some new Dark Magician and Blue-Eyes cards to look at, starting with a new Field Spell for the ultimate wizard in terms of attack and defense himself: Magician’s Salvation.

Magician’s Salvation is a Field Spell that sets an Eternal Soul directly from Deck upon activation, which is pretty good considering Eternal Soul is one of the better Dark Magician cards. The ability to keep resummoning Dark Magician is pretty good, especially with Dark Magical Circle on the field. Anyways, a second effect upon the Normal/Special Summon of a Dark Magician or Dark Magician Girl (except during Damage Step) lets you target one of the summoned monsters to revive the other from your graveyard. Konami really wants us to play Dark Magician Girl I guess, if cards like The Dark Magicians and Bond Between Teacher and Student haven’t pushed that point home enough already. I guess 1 copy of DMG herself is fine in a dedicated DM Deck. The second effect of this card is a hard once per turn and you can only activate 1 of this card a turn. All simple balancing stuff we should all be used to seeing on a 2021 card, especially the latter part on a Field Spell that gets you another card. Magician’s Salvation is a decent card for DM, if only to get more ways to Eternal Soul. This being searchable due to listing Dark Magician himself is a plus as well. Worth running in DM 100%.

The more I look at and read this card, the more I say hmm…Magician’s Salvation is a Field Magic, and an interesting one at that.  Upon activation of this card, you have the option to directly Set an Eternal Soul (Continuous Trap, for the unaware, that protects Dark Magician from opponent’s Card Effects and gives you the option to Special Summon one or add a Dark Magic Attack/Thousand Knives to your Hand each Turn).  A free card, even a Set Trap, isn’t a bad thing off simply playing another card.  There’s a plethora of better cards you could get, but that’s what they went with.  Normal or Special Summoning DM or DMG (save the Damage Step), lets you Target the one you did to Special Summon the other from your Graveyard.  It’s a free +1, even being dependent on you all ready having done something.  But also, given the incredible ease it is to Special Summon either of them, you should have zero trouble getting this to happen.  Said Effect can only be used once per Turn, and you can only activate one of these per Turn.  This card is hardly bad, but it seems a little lackluster, especially considering it’s a Field.  Would this really have been too powerful as a Quickplay?  Regardless, one of these is probably plenty in whatever DM or hybrid Deck you’re using.

Art:  4.75/5  Standard Magician Seal here, but I love the cosmic background, and it’s nice to see DMG lending DM a hand…or apparently, two, in this case.

The theme for this week is the Tin of Ancient Battles– and what better place to start than with Magician’s Salvation? This field spell lets you set an Eternal Soul to your field upon activation, which is great, since that trap is one of Dark Magician’s claims to fame. Sadly, you cannot activate it the same turn, but it doesn’t matter too much since you can activate it on your opponent’s turn anyway. The other effect of Magician’s Salvation isn’t game-changing, but it is a nice bonus. If you summon Dark Magician or Dark Magician Girl while this field spell is active, you can summon its counterpart from the graveyard. It can help in certain scenarios, but I don’t think it’s something you’d go out of your way to accomplish when Dark Magician Girl as-is struggles to pull its weight in Dark Magician decks. Overall, good as an additional searcher for Eternal Soul, but it can be skipped depending on your build.
