Hello Pojo Fans,
Majespecter Unicorn – Kirin was recently released from the ban list jail where its been since 2017.
No Pendulum Spell effect to speak of, but a scale of two. You aren’t playing Kirin for its scale though, so lets get straight to the monster effect.
Level 6 so you’ll need to Pendulum Summon Kirin unless you are okay with a Tribute Summon. Quick Effect allows Kirin to bounce a Pendulum Monster of yours and a monster of your opponents during either turn. On top of that, Kirin cannot be targeted or destroyed by your opponent’s card effects. Pendulum Summon Kirin and bounce one of your Pendulum Monsters in the Monster Zone to deal with a boss monster. It clears the way of problematic monsters your opponent may have, and next turn if Kirin is still around you can just Pendulum Summon your bounced Pendulum Monster again and repeat…or just summon it if it’s Level 4 or lower. This effect is good, Kirin can bounce itself to save itself and take something with it (usually you’ll target something that will go back to the Extra Deck).
Its protection makes it a tough out for monsters that like to negate and destroy through targeting effect(s). It doesn’t have the highest ATK for a Level 6 but it is searchable within Pendulums and offers them an easy out to other monsters. Bouncing back Joker to your hand to re-summon it and get another search isn’t as big of a play anymore as it once was, and there’s many effects that do essentially what Kirin does, except easier.
Kirin is back and by next ban list it will likely go to three like Joker did. Pendulum Decks aren’t very strong anymore because key cards are still banned (like tomorrow’s card). It’s good to see a good support card back for them though, because even without those key cards, players could still now try to find a deck combo that can be at least fun and a little competitive.

We reach the #2 spot, which considering what we haven’t covered yet should make #1 obvious, and it’s a card we wondered why wasn’t unbanned instantly after we got Majespecter support. It’s back now at least, from Dimension of Chaos we have Majespecter Unicorn – Kirin.
Kirin as a Pendulum Scale is a Scale 2, a fine low Scale. There’s no Pendulum Effect on it, which offers no real benefits, but I guess it keeps the Majespecters balanced since they are pretty solid cards overall.
Kirin as a Monster is a Level 6 WIND Spellcaster with 2000 ATK and DEF. Stats are okay, Spellcaster is a common theme with good Pendulums, and WIND isn’t too amazing, but gives the Majespecter synergy. First effect is a Quick Effect to target a Pendulum Monster in your Monster Zone and a monster the opponent controls and return them to the hand. Pretty solid disruption on a Pendulum Monster that you can just keep summoning over and over again each turn. It was super annoying to deal with considering the second effect prevented the opponent from targeting it or destroying it by card effects, so they used to have to play into this, which coul be hard when every Pendulum Deck could run this and 3 Racoon to search for it. Now it’s easy to play around, even with the protection, hence why it’s back to 1 in both main formats and even at 3 in Master Duel for whatever that matters. I can see it coming back to multiples, it’s still solid disruption for Pendulum Decks, especially for Majespecters who can finally use this card properly with the recent support. Still a good card for Pendulums, but not broken or banworthy anymore.

Hallelujah! Pop the champagne! Bring out the fine cheese! Our runner up on our countdown is none other than the newly unbanned Majespecter Unicorn – Kirin, a level 6 WIND Spellcaster Pendulum monster with a scale of 2. If you read my scathing review of Majespecter Draco – Ryu, I complained about the lack of Kirin, and it seems Konami heard my prayers! Kirin is remarkably accessible, since you can grab it with a lot of Majespecter cards, though it’s most easily summoned with Ryu because Majespecter monsters ironically have inappropriate scales for it, and they’d rather use their Normal Summon on Majespecter Raccoon – Bunbuku. Kirin’s stats are rather average, with 2000 across the board, though by Majespecter standards it’s pretty beefy.
As you would expect from a Majespecter, Kirin has no Pendulum effect. Moving on!
In addition to the standard Majespecter protection of being indestructible and untargetable by your opponent’s card effect, Kirin possesses a much-loathed hard once per turn Quick Effect to target a Pendulum monster in your Monster Zone and any monster your opponent controls, returning both of them to the hand. This makes Kirin function as a sort of proto-Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer, only with an added layer of protection that makes it even more annoying to delete permanently. It’s not hard to see why people hate this card and still didn’t want it unbanned even when the Majespecter support was announced (not me! We’ve come a long way); Kirin is solid disruption that effectively saves itself, and the right deck (IE Pendulum deck) can repeatedly summon it back on your turn. In ancient times, pretty much any Pendulum deck could search and summon it with Heavymetalfoes Electrumite, but with Electrumite still banned in the TCG, you’re pretty much limited to Majespecter. Even with Electrumite, it wouldn’t significantly improve the standings of current Pendulum decks since they have better options to search, especially if they can’t afford to continuously summon Kirin. Of course, Kirin itself is still a fantastic card, and a staple part of the Majespecter endboard– Ryu can bring it out very easily. It’s time to shed our fear of Pendulum mania!
+Strong disruption that is also protected
+Self-bounce can dodge a lot of conventional removal
-Not very easy to summon outside of its own deck
-Outclassed by in-house options in many stronger Pendulum decks

Art: 3.5/5 I know all of the Majespecter animals look like this, but Kirin specifically looks a little goofy with the anime eyes…
