Entangle

Here’s a pretty interesting card.

Constructed

I never thought much of this card until I saw it played against me and thought it was pretty nifty. With DC the games take a bit longer (end around turn 7) but at the same time the decks are more aggressive than they were before. You have a lot of decks running around that’ll win the game if you make one small mistake or draw something that’s not all that reliable.

Entangle

This card is so bad there’s not really much to say about it.  Exhaust a character of your own and discard a card from your hand just to exhaust a weaker character your opponent controls.  Why?  Don’t ask me.  I suppose these could be some kind of combo that works with this card, however I’m quite sure it would not be worth the effort to think one up.

This card is bad in every light you look at it in.

Rating:

Constructed – 1.0/5.0 ….. On the good side it probably makes for pretty good kindling.

Limited – 1.0/5.0 …You really can’t afford to lose cards in this format…especially for a really bad effect.

Johnny Blaze Entangle – A popular card in control decks especially the FF variety. You are doing 2 things here 1st you are exhausting a character you control then you are discarding any card from your hand to target a character with a cost less than the character that you exhausted.

If your opponent has initiative and a beefy attacker that is going to cause lots of BEL, then this is a card to play. Otherwise I wouldn’t normally play this card outside of a control deck.

Constructed - 3.5/5 In a control deck. 2/5 In any other deck
Limited – 2/5 May help here with a risk of losing one of your higher drops to exhaust an opponent.

The last card of this week is Entangle. This is an easy review: I hate this card. Hate hate hate hate HATE this card. Exhaust your 5 drop and discard to exhaust their 4 drop. Exhaust your 8 drop and discard to exhaust their 7 drop. Even if it let you KO a lower drop, its still a bad trade off. Your higher drops are supposed to be able to deal with your opponent's lower drops, otherwise what are they doing in your deck? I would rather eat this card than play it.

In Limited, this card had better never see the inside
of your deck. Use it for target practice, put it in
your bike spokes, use it as a coaster...just don't play it.

When I first saw this card, I didn't think it was too great. You had to exhaust a character with a higher cost than your target -- shouldn't you just be swinging? However, as the game progresses, I am becoming more and more attached to Entangle. You rarely play it on the turns where you have initiative, but the ability to screw up your opponents' team attacks or his large, inexpensive characters is nothing to be laughed at. Just think, you can exhaust your Thing, Heavy Hitter to stop a Sabretooth, Feral Rage.

As I am always happy to have defensive tools in limited, Entangle will usually make the cut into my deck, especially since you can be forced into playing high-cost sub-par cards that could be better used through Entangle (see: Professor Xavier, Charles Xavier).
