Josef Witschi
CONSTRUCTED
When it comes to
the League of Assassins (LoA) this guy is a
walking Ka-Boom that wont set you back a
turn and that could potentially allow you to
have more resources in play than your
opponent. Its very unlikely that this would
happen but its possible. Is needles to say
you only use this character in LoA decks
because you have to discard an LoA character
to use his ability but I think hes a must
in just about any LoA decks.
Hes a decent
one drop that can help you out with the
Loyalty issue the League has and he alone
could be the game breaker in a lot of
matches.
3.5/5
LIMITED
Here hes just a
1/1 for one and thats as much as youre
gona get out of him. There are not a lot of
locations that can make a difference in this
format and is pretty hard to pull LoA
characters so hes ability doesnt exist in
this format for all intents and purposes.

Josef Witschi –
Talla’s Assistant
It looks like this week we are going to divulge
into the LOA
affiliation and discuss some of the more popular
characters that can be found there. With that
said, let’s take a look at Josef Witschi –
Talla’s Assistant.
So you like Have A Blast …but you have no room
for it in your deck. If you like LOA and plan
on running it in a tourney, then this is the
card for you. LOA is definitely the new Doom
deck and this card is one of the reasons that
you will be seeing a lot of LOA decks in
competitions. Brotherhood decks better watch
out….a LOA deck packing this guy is going to be
your worst nightmare. Since he is a 1/1 for a
recruit cost of 1, using this guy’s ability to
shut down your opponent’s carefully laid plans
is going to be easy. Discarding a LOA character
can be a pain in the butt at times, but if you
are running LOA only, then it won’t be as big a
deal as it first seems. I realize he doesn’t
have range or flight, but I am definitely not
going to fault him for that. This card wasn’t
meant to attack, instead it was meant to shut
down those decks that rely heavily on their
location cards to get the job done (most of the
Marvel deck affiliations fall into this
category). What I am going to fault, however,
is the fact that this guy’s effect can not
activate until the combat step. That means that
your opponent gets one last shot at using their
location during the build step before you can
knock it out. Oh well, such is life….
Oh, I almost forgot to mention that if you use
this guy’s effect then
your opponent can (if he/she wants to) put the
top card of his/her deck into the resource row.
At first it may sound bad but look at it this
way…I would rather take the chance of giving my
opponent a possible plot twist that he/she could
use only once than leave a location on the field
that is helping my opponent every turn.
Ratings:
LOA constructed deck – 4.5/5.0 ….I would
probably run 4 of these guys in a LOA deck.
Limited – 2.0/5.0 ….Knocking out a location is
really good in this
format…but you have to keep in mind that to use
this card you better draft a lot of LOA
characters.

Josef Witschi,
Talia's Assistant
This week’s them
is the League of Assassins (LOA). LOA has major
location hate and this card just exemplifies
that theme. LOA is the main reason to pack 4
locations if your deck relies on a specific
location *cough* Doomstadt *cough*.
Constructed: 3/5 – Some people may not like the
fact that you have to activate and then discard
a LOA character from your hand thus not being
able to attack 1st turn. But I say who cares?
With certain locations being a critical part in
certain decks this is just a minor drawback for
LOA. Then your opponent may put a card from his
hand face down into his resource row. Most
likely they will be holding plot twists to play
but on some occasions they will only be holding
characters to place in their resource row.
Limited: 2/5 – A 1/1 vanilla character not too
much to write home about. Especially since
Locations are not as crucial in draft.

We kick the week off
with some major location hate.
This is a really good ability for a 1-drop,
normally one of the more overlooked drops in the
game. If your opponent runs any locations, Josef
will be his worst nightmare. Unlike Kaboom!,
using him doesn't damage your curve, so feel
free to pop their locations turn after turn.
Even without anything to destroy, Josef is good
to have out to satisfy Loyalty requirements for
your other LoA heavy hitters.
In Limited, he's a tough pick. There are some
good locations floating around, and odds are
your opponent will only have one copy of a
specific location, which means that taking it
out will put a serious hurting on their
strategy. On the other hand, you'll have to
draft heavy LoA to use his effect, and if you're
drafting LoA, you've probably snagged all the
good locations. Still, he's playable.

Constructed - 3.75/5
Limited - 3/5

Josef Witschi,
Talia's Assistant --
I'm not sure I can say too much bad about Joseph
Witschi. He has an average body for a 1-Drop,
but his ability is insanely good! When I first
saw Josef, I thought he acted like Jean Grey or
Have a Blast, but oh no! You actually force your
opponent to make a decision -- lose a card from
hand or lose a resource. Most of the time, it
won't make a *huge* difference, but it could in
the long run. Overall, he ain't no Vulture, but
he ain't bad either.
In limited play, I'm pretty sure Josef gets to
sit on the sidelines. There aren't a lot of
locations that are huge threats, and even if
your opponent does have one, is it worth losing
a card in a limited environment? If I am going
to play any 1-Drops, I want to have cards like
Spoiler, Ratcatcher, Destiny, or Vulture.
