Ra's al Ghul, The Demon's Head
CONSTRUCTED
This character is really good and
a little bad at the same time. Let me elaborate
on that rather confusing statement because it
even throws me off. A lot of the time his
ability to turn off your opponent’s affiliations
will more than likely win you the game in a lot
of matches. He also turns off their payment
powers and he keeps your locations from being
unique but those are minor effects compare to
this game breaking off switch.
A lot of players think he’s
underpowered because of his lower stats for an
eight drop but they also oversee that once you
get this demon in play your opponent will not be
able to team attack him and unless they’re using
Burn Rubber they won’t be able to reinforce
either. Who needs flight and range when any
character you attack can’t be reinforced and
when you practically have an untouchable living
wall?
Like with everything else in life
everything that’s really great comes with a
catch. The catch is that if your opponent plays
an eight drop of his own, Ra's al Ghul might
have to rely solely on Lady Shiva to deal with
them. Not a lot of decks play eight drops so you
might not have much to worry about as long as
you keep this drawback in the back in your mind
because the random Doom deck or a Big Blue Boy
Scout could give you a headache.
4/5
LIMITED
If you can manage to get this guy
in play because of his loyalty or just the fact
that he’s an eight drop you pretty much have the
game in the bag. The only ability Ra's al Ghul
might be able to offer in this format is just
his ability to turn off affiliations but that’s
nothing to look down on because that effect
normally means game over for your opponent.

Ra’s Al Ghul – The Demon’s
Head
Well now we are on the final card for LOA
week. Today we are looking the granddaddy
of them all (as far as LOA is concerned),
Ra’s Al Ghul – The Demon’s Head. This guy
is plain nasty. Just how nasty? This card
definitely classifies as a **** card (These
cards are such that when they hit the field
your opponent says ****). Being able to
stop your opponent from having any sort of
team affiliation is nice. It definitely
means that even if you do not have
initiative, that you opponent will probably
be unable to dent this guy since he/she can
not team attack. This card also allows you
to start abusing multiple locations…now who
couldn’t appreciate that? However, the best
thing about this card is that it stops your
opponent’s payment powers. This alone is
going to make this guy virtually
unstoppable.
There is only one problem…you have to make
it to turn 8 first. Since LOA is all about
control, this may not be a big problem, but
if you start running into problems with your
LOA deck…it is going to be all downhill from
there. You also have the prospect of your
opponent having something bigger and badder
out there (hey, it could happen). Overall,
I would say that it is ok to run one of
these in a LOA deck, but I wouldn’t count on
it to win you the game. Instead, try to
focus on Lady Shiva since she is an awesome
card that provides you more reliability.
Ratings:
LOA constructed – 3.5/5.0 ….If you can make
it to turn 8 in at least 1 out of 3 games
then you will probably want to rate this
card a little higher.
Limited – 1.0/5.0 ….it’s just not gonna
happen…..

Ra's al Ghul, The
Demon's Head – This Ra’s 8 drop stats of 17/17
is below avg. for all 8 drops in the game only
being able to stun the Invisible Woman outright
with no assistance. However it is in his ability
that makes him very fun to use. Basically this
Ra’s cancels out all team affiliations except
for LOA. If you play this card right, you can do
major BEL loss to win the game since your
opponent cannot reinforce using Team
Affiliations nor can they team attack. And if
that wasn’t bad enough, all of your Locations
that you control are not Unique which means now
is the time to flip over multiple locations with
the same name.
Constructed: 3/5 – Again this rating is based on
LOA deck affiliation. Ra’s is the only 8 drop
that is available to you if you are playing a
strict LOA deck. He can be a lot of fun and when
used at the right time can win you the game
outright. No Range or Flight is always a
drawback. So support him with Flying Kick or
some 0 Equipment such as JetPack and he can
cause some major BEL loss to support row
characters.
Limited: 2/5 - The Loyalty might be an issue if
you don’t get the chance to draft other LOA
characters. Otherwise if you can draft a
stronger 8 drop do so

Finishing off the
Week of Assassins, the reason to play League of
Assassins in the first place. Ra's al Ghul, The
Demon's Head has an unbelieveably game-breaking
effect. He's a walking Tower of Babel, which
means that once he's in play, your opponent's
team-based strategies are history. No team
attacking, no reinforcement, no team-specific
plot twists. If that wasn't bad enough, he
knocks out payment powers too. Goodbye, Garth.
His ability to make your locations unique
probably won't have much effect, although
busting out a couple of Flying Fortresses never
hurts, I suppose. The only drawback is that
17/17 makes him the second smallest 8 drop in
the game, but its the only way to balance out
his incredible effect.
In Limited, you'll see Turn 8 more often than
you will in a Contructed game, so if you see an
8 drop, its usually a good idea to deck it.
However, Loyalty again rears its ugly head, so
make sure you're packing enough LoA support to
be able to get him on the field.
In Limited, it usually doesn't matter who your 8
drop is, because if you get it out and they
don't, its over anyway.
(Personal note, I'll be at Gencon next week
working at the True Heroes game, which is based
on the VS system.
If you're looking for something to do in between
games, come by and say hi.)

Limited - 3/5

Ra's al-Ghul, The Demon's Head --
I can't really say too much bad about this
card. As far as 8-Drops go, he is pretty
small -- only Invisible Woman, Sue Richards
is smaller. He doesn't have range or
flight, either. The bad parts end there,
though. Both abilities are solid.
Non-unique locations are really solid,
especially in League of Assassins (think
multiple Flying Fortress), and the ability
to take away all affiliation can crush decks
like Sentinels. In short, play at least one
copy in any League of Assassins deck.
In limited, I'm a fan of any 8-Drop, and
Ra's al-Ghul fits that description. Large
characters win games -- not much else to
say.
