I like Venom.  Let me start with that.  The card's effect is pretty sick.  At a 12/12 for 6, it's not a bargain, but solid.  Forcing an opponent to take 6 instead of being KOed can put your opponent in a tough spot, especially if you can't seem to stun more than 1 a turn.  I don't think it's the end all, be all, but a decent top end for Sinister Syndicate decks.  I'll be happy to see how this card pans out once the rest of the set it released.

In limited, it's a powerhouse.  Big stuff is very good.  Take and play this card. :)

As a cheap plug, we are currently pre-selling D.C. singles.  As of right now, there are some pretty good bargains.  Check out our auctions here and be the first to get your hot D.C. cards as soon as they come out!

As a quick side note before I start my review.
Venom is my favorite villain, he is the main reason I started to collect comics.
I only hope when this set is released there is a Spiderman card with the symbiote costume.

The base stats for this card are solid. 6 cost 12/12 is average, but his ability makes him better then most 6 drops.
Paying 6 endurance that late in the game really makes it a tough choice for opponents to keep the character he stuns around.

In limited he looks like he will be a second pick, if not a first. It all depends on what else the set will have to offer.

Johnny Blaze Venom - One of the better and stronger Sinister Syndicate villains. His power is similar to Rogue's with one exception. Makes you think how you are going to attack him. Anytime Venom stuns a character , KO that character unless its controller pays 6 endurance. His ATK + DEF at 12/12 is pretty good for a 6 drop.

For the most part your opponent is going to KO his character. Why lose an additional 6 endurance on top of the endurance loss when your character is stunned? However there are times when you want to keep that character of yours alive when you know that next turn will be game when you have initiative. This card shines in Limited.

Constructed - 3.5/5
Limited - 4/5

Venom – Eddie Brock

The research guys at Upperdeck were definitely smoking something and listening to Guns and Roses when they created this card.  It is pretty insane.  A level 6 creature with 12/12 and the ability to KO an opponent's character or make them pay 6 endurance is just plain wicked.  I would definitely consider this guy the second best 6 drop in the game since it can go in any deck (sorry Dr. Doom – Victor Von Doom).  First place will still go to Rouge – Powerhouse, but only because she has flight (and I happen to be X-Men biased).  If this guy had flight or range he would definitely be the first to fall into the broken category.

Ratings:

Constructed deck – 4.5/5.0 ….If you do not have a good 6 drop for your team affiliation, you better put in this guy.

Limited – 5.0/5.0 …..This guy is definitely the best character to grab in limited since he does not rely on his team affiliation.

Paul Hagan Venom, Eddie Brock --

To be upfront with everyone, I do not get to see everyone's opinions of the cards before I do mine. In fact, the first time I see the rest of the staff's opinions on different cards is the same time y'all do. However, I will go ahead and say with some certainty that I might be the one to give this card the lowest rating, because I think Venom is overrated.

Yes, Venom has a decent body [12/12] for a 6-Drop, and yes, his ability *can* KO one of your opponent's characters, but its the fact that your opponent has the option of keeping their character that bothers me. I truly hate cards that give your opponent a way out (in any game!), meaning I don't care for Venom's ability.

That said, if I were to build a Sinister Syndicate deck right now, I would play at least three Venom, Eddie Brock and I would be happy whenever I drew him.

In limited, my opinion jumps way up on Venom on the sole grounds that 6- and 7-Drops are what wins the game for you, and Venom fits into one of those catagories. On top of this, he doesn't have a team-affiliated ability, meaning he is just good all around.
