Spider-Man – Cosmic
Spider-Man
Today we are going
to look at the big guy himself as far as SF goes
– Cosmic Spider-Man.
What the 7-drop
Spider-Man lacks, this character more than makes
up for. A 17/17 8-drop with flight and range,
this guy is definitely a powerhouse. But wait –
it gets better. Add in a BAMF! effect and the
ability to add +1/+1 counters equal to the
number of characters your opponent controls each
combat phase and you have yourself a great
counter to any other 8-drop out there.
Ok so maybe your
game won’t last until turn 8. However, since
the meta-game is still focused on Common Enemy
control decks, maybe you will. Wouldn’t it be
great to have a counter to Silver Surfer? I
would probably add one to a SF deck just for
s&g’s.
Ratings:
SF constructed deck
– 3.5/5.0 ….We will just have to wait and see
how good this guy really is.
Limited – 4.5/5.0 …..A non-loyalty 8-drop is
gold in this format. |

Spider-Man, Cosmic
Spider-Man –One of the smaller 8 drops at 17/17
with both Flight and Range. But with Scarlet
Spider you can actually have 2 of the Cosmic
Spiders out on the field at the same time. His
power allows Spidey-Friend’s attackers that you
control cannot be stunned.
Also at the start of the combat phase Spider-Man
gets +1 ATK +1DEF for each non-stunned character
that target opponent controls. Notice that it
doesn’t say Cosmic Spider-Man so I’m pretty sure
that this power also to Spider-Man himself.
Constructed: 3/5 – 2 nice abilities that
compliment Spider Friends. This is the guy you
want on your team late game. The ability to not
be stunned while you are attacking can be game
saving.
Limited: 3/5 – With no Loyalty take him. Most
likely you will have other Spider Friends in
your draft picks to help out with his ability.

Wow...today's card
is a beatstick. This card will end games
singlehandedly. First of all, ignore that 17/17,
he'll more than likely hit 20/20 or more,
depending on how much you've been beating on
your opponent. Secondly, being able to attack
without being stunned is a huge effect in this
game. Spider man, Friendly Neighborhood Spider
Man gives it to your team attackers, and Cosmic
Spidey gives it to everybody now. This is the
kind of power Spider Friends needs to be able to
show up as a Tier 1 team.
In Limited, there aren't many 7 and 8 drops
floating around, so if you see one, grab it.
Even if you don't run many Spider Friends, he
winds up being a fatty on turn 8. If you get him
early in a draft, you obviously want to draft
more Spider Friends, and really abuse his
ability.

Spider-Man, Cosmic
Spider-Man
I'll fess up -- I suggested we do this card so I
could make fun of the picture. It is, by far,
the ugliest thing I think I ever seen in any
card game, and that includes Penguin from DC
Origins. I don't blame the artist -- it's not
his fault that the original writers and artists
made Spider-Man hideous. But...ugh.
Anyways, I wouldn't suggest running more than
one of these in any given Spider-Friends deck,
but I think he warrants a spot. His ability is
truly sick, allowing you to get a massive jump
in endurance if you have the initiative. Between
getting a massive Spider-Man and all of your
attackers being un-stunnable, you should win any
game that you attack with this character.
I'm all for playing any 8-Drop I see in limited,
so Cosmic Spider-Man fits that bill.
There is one drawback to this card -- it costs
8. I understand Spider-Friends can stall for a
while, but how many of this card should you
really play? If I only slide in one, meaning he
often won't come up when I need him (thanks,
Spider-Friends, for not having a Signal Flare of
any sort). At the same time, if I put in
multiples, you know that they'll be hanging out
in my hand on Turn 1.
All in all, I'll give this card a fairly high
rating, but nothing Spectacular or Amazing. He's
no Silver Surfer or Apocalypse, but he's also no
Invisible Woman, Sue Richards or Ra's al-Ghul,
The Demon's Head.
Constructed Rating: 2.5 (I wish I could give
2.75...) Limited Rating: 3.0
