Guest Writer Filling In:
Looks like its Teen
Titans week and who better to rip apart their
strengths and weaknesses better than me….call
me….hmmmm….well, don’t call me. Nakaiya is on
vacation and I’ll be filling in for her this
week. I’ve been playing the Titans since DC’s
release so I hope I know a little bit about my
underage buddies.
Donna Troy – Wonder
Girl
Lookie at this, a
5/3 for only a 2 recruit cost. This card is
definitely the biggest 2-drop in the entire
game. With a card this good there’s gotta be a
catch right? Well, in this case there is just a
little one. It’s not that you need to reveal
another TT character you hold, (that shouldn’t
be too hard to pull off) it’s that when she
becomes stunned she’s returned to her owner’s
hand. You may ask, “Why is that bad?”. I
DIDN’T SAY IT WAS BAD!!! I just said it could
be a slight drawback - and at times it is
anyway. Sure, sometimes as the game progresses
you would want your lower level characters off
the field so they don’t get beat on. However,
what if you recruit her on turn 2 and then she
gets stunned on turn 3? I don’t like the
possibility of her leaving the field so soon and
it’s just not worth the space to include
defensive cards just to save her butt. She is
definitely not worth a Heroic Sacrifice.
Your other option
for a 2-drop is Hawk – Hank Hall. It all comes
down to personal preference. Hank’s a little
less reliable for power then Donna, but if you
got a Dove to go with him they’re so much better
together than one lone Wonder Girl.
Ratings:
Teen Titan
Constructed Deck - 3.75/5…..She is handy for
sure, but consider Hawk in your deck too.
Limited –
1.5/5…..The chance of having another TT
character in your hand to reveal early enough in
the game to make her a force to be reckoned with
is about slim to none.

Donna Troy as Wonder
Girl, Amazon Warrior – If Wonder Girl is this
strong as a 2 drop imagine what her cousin
Wonder Woman is going to be like? At 5/3 with
flight, Wonder Girl is the strongest
(unmodified) 2 drop in the game. The recruit
cost isn’t that bad when you are playing with
other Teen Titans.
Constructed: 3/5 – The only real drawback is the
Reign of Terror like effect that she comes back
to your hand when she is stunned. But definitely
the best 2 drop and if you are running Titans
you definitely want her as your 2 drop.
Limited: 4/5 – If you are lucky enough to draft
her use her. With a 5 ATK on turn 2 that is
nothing to sneeze at for major early game BEL
loss in draft.

Well, we've reached
the last of the new DC affiliations this week,
as we look at the much heralded Teen Titans.
Donna Troy has some gaudy stats, but she doesn't
impress me as much as she did the first time I
saw her. 5/3 for a 2 drop is some raw power,
don't get me wrong. However, in exchange for one
swipe at your opponent's endurance, you lose
field advantage by having her come back to your
hand.
The flip side of this is that replaying Donna
Troy on turn 3 gives you a 5/3 that can butt
heads with most of your opponent's 3 drops, and
an extra resource point to use on equipment.
This a powerful card with a huge drawback, so
play her at your own risk.
In Limited, its a tossup. I'd put her in a deck
in Sealed, but I'd pass her in a Draft. A lot of
people draft Teen Titans, so you're going to be
fighting one or two other people at the table
for the good cards.
In Sealed, early damage can help you out more
than board position, as the likelyhood of a
missed drop or two is a lot higher in Limited.
If her effect of coming back to your hand was
optional, like Toad, then she'd be a top pick.
However, there are much better Titans out there.

Donna Troy * Wonder
Girl, Amazon Warrior --
When it first came out, I wasn't a huge fan of
Donna Troy. In fact, I told people not to play
her because of her mandatory bounce ability. The
truth of the matter is, however, that you just
don't play her on the turn you don't have
initiative. With all of the great cards that
benefit team attacking, as long as you have a
way to defend Donna Troy (see: Dynamic Duo, Tim
Drake * Robin, Young Detective), then she's an
amazing card! Her requirement that you reveal a
Teen Titans card isn't too much to ask, and it
will only hurt you every once in a while.
In limited, if I think I can get a strong Teen
Titans deck, I'll definitely scoop Donna Troy.
However, recently, I've been seeing almost
everyone at any given draft table trying to
fight over Teen Titans, leaving every other
faction fresh for the taking. You might want to
keep that in mind when looking at Donna Troy.
