Silver freakin'
Surfer. What's not to love? It's a 19/19 FR for
8. That stat alone makes it playable in any
limited deck for any reason. It's ability,
though, makes it a MUST for any Fantastic Four
deck, and I think you're going to find more than
1 deck trying to find a way to play and make
this guy work. It's a simple truth in this game:
if you have the initiative on turn 7 and 8, you
should win. Not always, but if the game is
remotely close, you should win. What more is
there to say? A fattie worth his weight in gold.

Silver Surfer –
Norrin Radd
Today we are going to look at a high anticipated
card for all Fantastic Four/Common Enemy decks
out there – Silver Surfer.
As far as 8-drop characters go, I will say that
this guy is the best for his cost. He has an
incredible attack/defense stat, flight, range,
and no loyalty requirement. Best of all it
doesn’t matter whether or not you have
initiative when this guy hits the field – you
always will always have initiative when this guy
is around (granted if you can discard a FF
character)! The bad news is that in order to use
this card you will have to last until turn 8. In
today’s environment that may be hard to do,
however, some areas are starting to see a shift
in the metagame to decks that stall better and
games that last longer.
Bottom Line: This guy will be far more effective
in a Common Enemy deck than a straight FF,
simply due to the fact that Common Enemy decks
have better stall capabilities. Regardless, I
would suggest finding room for one of these guys
in your deck if your are running any version of
FF. Just remember to save one Signal Flare for
this guy just in case.
Ratings:
Fantastic Four Constructed deck – 3.0/5.0
….Definitely try one of these characters in your
deck.
Limited – 3.5/5.0 ….Since he has no loyalty
requirements you can’t go wrong with having one
of these beatsticks in your deck.

Silver Surfer,
Norrin Radd
One of my favorite
comic book characters is this former Herald to
Galactus. With Flight and Range and an ATK + DEF
value of 19 with the FF Team Affliation expect
to see the Surfer in action.
You see at the start of THE combat phase, it
doesn’t say yours, so you can declare his power
at the start of the combat phase, discard a FF
character and then you gain control of the
Initiative. Did you always want initiative near
the end of the game? This is a great way to
finish off the game when you really needed the
initiative.
Constructed: 4/5 – One of the better 8 drops out
there. Definitely a must for FF decks and will
even see play in Common Enemy decks. You can
still even use him for his values and Flight +
Range even if you don’t run FF, then you just
cant use his power.
Limited: 4/5 – Nice pull in draft. Definitely
use him. To have both Flight and Range with a
19/19 is a great way to finish off the game.

Silver Surfer,
Norrid Radd
When I started thinking about it, I came to the
conclusion that what Fantastic Four *really*
needed was another good character. They only
have Ant-Man (Scott Lang), Invisible Woman
(Invisible Girl), Human Torch (Johnny Storm),
She-Thing (Sharon Ventura), Luke Cage (Hero For
Hire), She-Hulk (Jenny Walters), Thing (Ben
Grimm), Invisible Woman (Sue Storm), Wolverine
(New FF), Thing (Heavy Hitter), Ghost Rider (New
FF), Mr. Fantastic (Stretch), Hulk (New FF), Mr.
Fantastic (Scientific Genius), Thing (TELBET),
and Invisible Woman (Sue Richards). I mean,
c'mon! Where's the goods?
In all seriousness, though, Silver Surfer is
pretty insane for an 8-Drop. I seriously doubted
that something was going to be along anytime
soon to replace Apocalypse, but oh, did the
Surfer prove me wrong. The ability to steal
initiative every turn is sickening, especially
in a beatdown-oriented deck like Fantastic Four.
I'll take this guy in limited, too, just because
he's an 8-Drop. Who passes something like this
up? If you somehow have Fan-Four guys hanging
out in your deck, it just makes him that much
better.
Constructed Rating: 4.0 [for an 8-Drop -- SICK!]
Limited Rating: 3.5 [too slow for anything
higher]
