Meklord Emperor Wisel – Synchro Absorption – Yu-Gi-Oh! Review

Hello Pojo Fans,

Meklord Emperor Wisel – Synchro Absorption is a new version of the original Emperor Wisel.

All of the big Emperor Meklords start off with a special requirement for summoning, so I’m not going to knock them too much for that. Summon during your opponents turn via Quick Effect means disruption and avoiding losing your monster for nothing. Stop an attack for the turn is good, and with 2500ATK/DEF MEW-SA can hold its own. 1-for1 against effect destruction is handy. Disruption is something the archetype needed. Assembly quickens your moves on your turn, and Synchro Absorption can help on your opponents turn.

Stopping ALL monsters from attacking for the rest of the turn, or some lock-down on that monster that encompasses being used as Extra Deck material or activating its effect would have been better. As is, Synchro Absorption is a good monster for the archetype and offers some negation potential.

We could of just got a new Meklord Emperor straight up, but instead we’ll go with Wisel 2: Electric Boogaloo, or Meklord Emperor Wisel – Synchro Absorption.

Synchro Absorption is a Level 1 DARK Machine with 2500 ATK and DEF, so instantly we know we aren’t going to be able to Normal Summon or Set this. It must be Special Summoned via its own effect, or you can ignore that and use the Core to summon it from Deck. During the opponent’s turn as a Quick Effect, you can send a face-up Meklord monster you control to the graveyard to Special Summon this from hand. Easy enough, but why not pop the Meklord to help summon another Meklord Emperor from hand? Sending it to the graveyard is a weird choice. This is a hard once per turn effect, so no spamming this thing out. If this card is Special Summoned, you can target a monster the opponent controls so it can’t attack for the rest of the turn. Fine I guess, throwback to the original Wisel not letting your other monsters attack, but the effect on summon could of still been better and at the very least make the monster not allowed to attack in general. The final effect is basically Stardust Dragon, as seen in the art somewhat, where if the opponent uses a card or effect that would destroy a card on the field, then as a Quick Effect you can tribute this to negate and destroy that card. Weird in theory you want to prevent your cards that want to be destroyed by effects to not be destroyed by an effect unless it could of caused the Emperors to miss timing, but it could also protect Spells and Traps at least. Sadly this doesn’t have the part of Stardust that made it extra good where it could revive itself at the end of the turn where it used the effect. Instead you tribute it and it’s straight-up gone. A really strange card for this archetype, especially when you consider this is called Synchro Absorption and yet it doesn’t absorb Synchros like the other Meklord Emperors do. This is certainly a preference card as a 1-of, it’s just weird and very underwhelming when you consider this could of been a new Meklord Emperor and not a Wisel retrain.

Meklord Emperor Wisel-Synchro Absorption, is a new version of Wisel.  Dark/Machine, Level 1, and 2500 attack and defense make for a fun card, at least at a glance.  So it has standard Mek-text…can’t be Normal Summoned or Set and has to be Special Summoned via its own effect.  Which sucks but is par for the course.  A Quick Effect Special Summons this during your opponent’s Turn by sending a Theme Monster to your Graveyard (from the Field).  Said Monster has to be face-up on your Field, but it still is a relatively easy way to bring this out.  Being Quick is obviously great, and being able to do so on any moment of the opponent’s turn is awesome too.  Special Summoning this card lets you choose an opponent’s Monster and prevent it from attacking for the turn.  Which can sure be helpful given you’re hoping to drop this on their turn.  The problem being you’re likely muting a Monster stronger than this, so you probably can’t take it out, and it doesn’t HELP you take it down either.  A second Quick Effect lets you Tribute this card to negate a card or effect that would destroy a card(s) on the Field and destroy said card.  Which is cool too, but then you’re just losing this Monster.  It just doesn’t even seem that important in the Theme if you’re all ready Tributing to bring it out and then dumping it so soon just to negate a destruction of something.  This is one of those cards that does a lot, just nothing particularly worthwhile.

Art:  3/5  The art this week continues to be rather bland.  Absorbing Stardust here in the pic is cool, but the picture just feels so lazy.
