Increase this card’s Level by 4 during your opponent’s turn only. You can only use each of the following effects of “Metal Illusionist” once per turn. If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can Set 1 “Metalmorph” Trap from your Deck, then if “Max Metalmorph” is in your GY, you can draw 1 card. You can declare 1 other Monster Type; this card becomes that Type, until the end of your opponent’s turn.

Hello Pojo Fans,
Metal Illusionist is the Normal Summon you need in the archetype to make things start rolling.
When you summon Metal Illusionist you get to set a Metalmorph Trap from the Deck. Of the five or so traps that carry that name, you will be setting a copy or your first Max Metalmorph. Speaking of which, if Max Metalmorph is in your Graveyard you get to draw a card after you set your “Metalmorph” trap…that’s a +1 and you’ve still got Metal Illusionist on the field to work with Max Metalmorph during the opponent’s turn.
Changing its Type until the end of the opponent’s next turn, along with changing its Level during the opponent’s turn to Level 5 aligns with using it and Max Metalmorph to summon Metalzoa X and Red-Eyes Black Fullmetal Dragon. Increase Metal Illusionist’s Level by 4 to match the Level 5 or higher requirement of those boss monsters, then change its Type to whichever you wanna summon. REBFD is far easier to summon because it has Bystials to rely on as well as Metal Illusionist. Dark Worlds help Metalzoa X, but they aren’t splashable and yes, you could run Fiendsmith because it’s a Fiend and Level 6.
This is the card you always want to see in your opening hand. If you don’t, pray you’ve got One for One to summon this and get things going. It simplifies things and gets you to your big bads without having to jump through hoops. You could tech in some Fiends or Dragons, but this is the easiest road.

Now for a support monster for this archetype, as Copycat joins the group to help get you to your Metalmorph goods as Metal Illusionist.
Metal Illusionist is a Level 1 LIGHT Spellcaster (lost opportunity to make it an Illusion) with 0 ATK and DEF. The stats are bad of course, but being a LIGHT Spellcaster gives it a few things going for it. This card’s Level increases by 4 during the opponent’s turn, making it a Level 5 so it can meet the requirements for the Max Metalmorph monsters to be summoned. The remaining effects are each a HOPT, first being the ability on Normal or Special Summon to set any Metalmorph Trap from the Deck, then you can draw a card if Max Metalmorph is already in the graveyard. Suffice to say you still aren’t playing the old Metalmorphs with this, so you’re likely going with Max Metalmorph, or maybe the upcoming Flame Metalmorph to go with Metal Flame Swordsman. Finally, you can declare another Type to have this monster become said Type til the end of the opponent’s turn, being able to turn it into a Warrior, Fiend, or Dragon to summon the respective Max Metalmorph monster instead of having to get to a monster of the aforementioned Types. Metal Illusionist is solid for making it much easier to get to your Max Metalmorph package and summoning the monsters you intend to summon with it. It does basically everything for you for those boss monsters, so it feels like a good inclusion for a Max Metalmorph strategy.

I guess you own the things you steal now, because Joey’s Copycat gets an upgrade as Metal Illusionist. Contrary to its name, Metal Illusionist retains Copycat’s parameters as a level 1 LIGHT Spellcaster, giving it some minor synergy with White Woods, but for the most part you’ll play this in Metalmorph as a deck. Tomorrow’s card, Incoming Machine!, can search it, as well as the upcoming Metal Flame Swordsman (name pending) since its text mentions Max Metalmorph. Additionally, thanks to its abysmal 0/0 stats, you can grab it with Piri Reis Map too, but considering how consistent Metalmorph is, I don’t think it’s worth the Life Point cost.
During your opponent’s turn, Illusionist gains 4 levels, making it level 5 in total. If you’ve read Metalzoa X or Red-Eyes Black Fullmetal Dragon, the reasoning is obvious, since that makes it high enough of a level to be tribute fodder. Illusionist comes with two hard once per turn effects, the first triggering if it’s Normal or Special Summoned to set any Metalmorph Trap directly from your deck– as a bonus, if Max Metalmorph is in your Graveyard, you can draw a card too. This is meant to reward you in longer games, but the more important thing is mentioning Max Metalmorph, as otherwise you couldn’t search Illusionist with the other Metalmorph cards. Illusionist’s final effect rounds out its purpose, letting you declare any Monster Type and making Illusionist that type until the end of the opponent’s turn. This turns Illusionist into either a Fiend or Dragon, letting you use it to summon Metalzoa X or Fullmetal Dragon during your opponent’s turn with Max Metalmorph. For pure Metalmorph decks, this will be your main playmaker, so you should run 3! Hybrids won’t need it at all since they should have other ways to field tribute fodder, and Illusionist will most likely eat your Normal Summon in the process. I don’t like that it can only be level 5 during your opponent’s turn, but that’s more the fault of Max Metalmorph being stuck as a Normal Trap.
+Easily brings out Metalmorph boss monsters in very few summons
+Highly accessible
-Can only enable Max Metalmorph during your opponent’s turn
-Vulnerable to targeting negates like Infinite Impermanence and Effect Veiler

Art: 4/5 I prefer the silly getup of the original Copycat, but getting a fancy glow up is fine too. Reminds me of Mercurymon for some reason.
