Once per Chain, during the Main Phase, if a “Mimighoul” monster your opponent controls is flipped face-up: You can randomly choose 1 face-down card in your opponent’s Extra Deck, and if it is a monster that can be Special Summoned, Special Summon it to your field, but it cannot activate its effects this turn. If it wasn’t, or couldn’t be Special Summoned, banish that card. You can only use this effect of “Mimighoul Charm” twice per turn.

Mimighoul Charm is a Continuous Spell that Mimighoul use to turn the opponent’s Extra Deck against them.

The deck doesn’t have many strong monster for attacking, even in the Extra Deck that doesn’t require some investment, so this is a round-about way to get to big monsters. If you flip up a Mimighoul on your opponent’s field (the whole point of the archetype), you get a random shot at the opponent’s Extra Deck. If you are lucky and pick a monster that can be Special Summoned, you get that monster, but it’s a vanilla for the turn. This is a downer if you miss out on any on-summon effects, but you may benefit from Continuous Effects or just a really strong ATK monster that can hold its ground until it can use its effect. If it can’t be Special Summoned it is banished. Regardless, you are taking care of one of their monsters: it is yours or you banish it. Once per chain means multiple times and sadly they put a limit on it to twice per turn, but stealing two of your opponent’s monsters while getting your Mimighoul monsters back and benefiting from their flip effect is more than enough positives.

Special Summon set one of your Mimighoul monsters to your opponent’s field and then Mimighoul Fork with Charm out and have fun. You’ll have invested three cards and end up with your set Mimighoul back, likely an Extra Deck monster from the opponent, and whatever Mimighoul you set’s effect(s). Mimighoul Archfiend hits hard in this situation, discarding a card of your opponents, drawing you a card, and giving itself back to you, while you get an Extra Deck monster. Once per Chain also means on your opponent’s turn. So if you were to say, set a Mimighoul monster and then trigger Mimighoul Maker in the grave on their turn, you could interrupt their Extra Deck Summon and steal their target if applicable.

You will be activating your Mimighoul monster effects on your opponent’s side of the field, so this card will get to activate. You won’t always hit a monster that can be summoned, but it will be banished. It being a vanilla doesn’t do much for you aside from being a decent attack option until it can unleash its effect, but if you did this during your opponent’s turn you are in luck on your turn and Mimighoul have much interaction with the opponent through Mimighoul Master, Mimighoul Maker, Mimighoul Fork, and Mimighoul Room. They may even take the loss on Charm if you have them locked via Dungeon and a face-down Mimighoul on their side and they want to Normal Summon and get their effect(s) from their monster. It can be triggered either turn, twice per turn, and easily, but unless you gain from it then it won’t help aside from banishing a target.

Next up for Mimighoul Week is the first card we saw from the second wave of support due to it being the Sneak Preview promo: Mimighoul Charm.

Mimighoul Charm is a Continuous Spell where once per Chain, during the Main Phase, if a Mimighoul monster the opponent controls is flipped face-up, you can randomly choose a face-down card in the opponent’s Extra Deck, and you Special Summon it to your field if it is a monster that can be Special Summoned via an effect like this, otherwise it’s banished. It looks nice, but the Kashtira package that Mimighoul would sometimes play just does this better. The Mimighouls you give to the opponent can trigger a Kashtira Unicorn you control, and that’ll let you pick the card you banish. This does let you banish twice a turn, sure, but it being random doesn’t give you control on how you mess up the opponent’s strategy. If you don’t run Kashtira cards in your Mimighouls, you can play a copy of this if you want, but you don’t have to use it, especially if you do run a Kashtira engine.

Today’s card was shown as a sneak-peek of Mimighoul’s second wave and proved controversial– not necessarily because of the card itself, but what it ended up representing (something we’re all aware of thanks to recent Kashtira Unicorn discourse). Mimighoul Charm continues our Mimighoul coverage, a Continuous Spell with a single once per Chain effect that can be used twice per turn. Charm triggers whenever a Mimighoul monster is flipped face-up on your opponent’s field, something that should occur pretty regularly with Mimighoul Master and Mimighoul Archfiend, letting you randomly choose a face-down monster in your opponent’s Extra Deck. If it’s a monster that can be cheated out, you’ll Special Summon to your own field with its effects negated that turn; otherwise, you’ll banish it. It’s not too hard to activate with Mimighoul Archfiend and it should happen multiple times over the course of the duel. The main problem is its impact is completely random, which is what sets it apart from Unicorn. In a best case scenario, you’ll steal a cornerstone Extra Deck monster and be able to use it as Link fodder– great! In a worst case scenario, you’ll get rid of an Extra Deck monster that wasn’t too relevant anyway (say, the second Mereologic Aggregator from Ryzeal) and, more importantly, missed out on searching Mimighoul Room. It might be more effective against decks with a very tight Extra Deck, like Fiendsmith hybrids, but overall hasn’t proven good enough to see competitive play. Instead, fittingly enough, Kashtira Unicorn itself gets the job done, with no RNG needed. That said, it is a very fun card in casual builds, where I’d only run 1 copy considering it doesn’t really do anything until you set it up.

+Extra deck rip can be potentially devastating
+Can get you a strong monster for “free”
-Rip is entirely random
-Competes with the more reliable Mimighoul Room to get searched
