Hello Pojo Fans,

Mimighoul Dragon starts our look at Mimighoul and is the only Main Deck Mimighoul aside from on Friday when we will be meeting with the Master.

Like all Mimighoul monsters, Dragon can be Special Summoned to your opponent’s side of the field face-down and when flipped, will eventually return to your side of the field like all Main Deck flip Mimighouls do, but not before some stuff happens in sequence. In the case of Dragon you nuke their board of monsters that aren’t Mimighoul. Destroying face-up monsters ensures any other Mimighoul monsters that are face-down will survive, but also any monsters your opponent may have face-down due to effects. Forcing a board-wipe on your opponent’s turn using Dragon triggered by Master should stop their turn dead in its tracks. Best way of doing that is giving them Dragon and dropping Master with Room on their turn.

When not messing up your opponent’s side of the field, Dragon is your Spell/Trap search monster on its Normal or Special Summon. One for One into Dragon to search whatever Mimighoul Spell/Trap you want. Dungeon is a great choice, but this could also get you Maker or Fork, though both of those are 50/50 cards because of your opponent being involved in the decision making. Room being searched off Dragon sets up for that Master/Room combo on your opponent’s turn. Mimighoul Charm will need you to flip one of the Mimighoul monsters you gave your opponent face-up to have Charm work, but you may strike gold and get a strong monster to your field (though vanilla for the turn). At the very worst you get potential knowledge of their Extra Deck and eliminate a monster.

Mimighoul Dragon is central to getting the best out of the archetype at the moment. It and Master you want to get to as quick as possible to get to your other cards and set up your board to mess with your opponent. You aren’t going to likely get a big pop-off with Dragon’s flip, but even taking away one or two monsters can be big for this archetype.

The last bit of Infinite Forbidden coverage before we get into Rage of the Abyss, and we got what’s become a pretty popular archetype from the TCG’s side. It’s Mimighoul Week and we’ll start the week with one of the better FLIP monsters in the Deck: Mimighoul Dragon.

Mimighoul Dragon is a Level 1 EARTH Dragon FLIP with 500 ATK and 2000 DEF. A strong DEF stat, EARTH is solid, and Dragon is good. The FLIP effect can only trigger in the Main Phase, applying two effects in sequence. First, you destroy all face-up monsters you control that aren’t Mimighoul monsters, then you give control of this card to the opponent. If this seems like a better effect to force onto the opponent, that’s cause that’s what it’s meant to do. During your Main Phase, you can Special Summon this card from the hand to the opponent’s field in face-down Defense Position, so that’s how you can force the opponent to trigger this effect. If you somehow have this in face-down Defense Posititon and it gets flipped, I guess at least your board should be safe if you only have Mimighoul monsters, but you give this to the opponent. Only triggering in the Main Phase also means you can’t just run into this, cause that would be too easy. If you do summon this yourself to your field, it has an effect that triggers on Normal or Special Summon, letting you search for any Mimighoul Spell/Trap. It’s your main backrow searcher, offering value if you draw multiples at least, but you might also just be the one to summon this in general for the Spell/Trap search since the archetype has a solid line of backrow. HOPT on each effect, which is fine. Dragon is solid to give to the opponent, but might be better sometimes just for you to summon to do more Mimighoul stuff. Play 3 in Mimighoul, the archetype has more ways to get to their monsters than they do the backrow, so this is useful for said backrow.

Despite the community being very sour on Ashened as of late, Jerome and the TCG have granted us a surprise breakout hit with this week’s theme, the Mimighoul archetype, the TCG exclusive deck from Infinite Forbidden. Mimighoul Dragon starts us off, a level 1 EARTH Dragon Flip monster. Though being a Flip monster is a red flag, with their new support all Mimighouls are highly accessible, being accessible with Mimighoul Dungeon, Mimighoul Maker, Mimighoul Master, and the upcoming Giant Mimighout and Mimighoul Throne (through Master), so there is basically no excuse not to access Mimighoul names. In fact, since Giant Mimighoul is generic, any Rank 1 engine can access Dragon as well. As a level 1 monster, it’s no surprise it has a paltry 500 attack, but at least it has a meaty 2000 defense if it has to stay on the field for some reason.

Dragon has three hard once per turn effects, the first, of course, being a Flip effect with two parts. After being flipped, Dragon will destroy all of your own monsters except other Mimighouls, then give itself to the opponent. You might think this effect is pretty stupid, especially in hybrid builds where you can very plausibly blow up your own monsters, but that’s where Dragon’s second effect comes into play– all level 1 Mimighouls have the ability to Special Summon themselves to the opponent’s field face-down (with some bonuses for the new wave monsters). This makes Dragon a deadly two-card combo enabler considering the deck’s current boss monster, Mimighoul Master, will be able to flip it as a disruption, effectively making Dragon a Quick Effect Raigeki that turns into advantage as it comes back to your field. This gimmick also inherently protects you from the nuisance that is Infinite Impermanence; a lot of people groan at the prospect of being given cards, especially after Branded and Gimmick Puppet, but I think Mimighoul uses it in a very fun way. Finally, Dragon’s third effect is a standard backrow search, triggering if it’s Normal or Special Summoned to search any Mimighoul Spell or Trap. Almost every single Mimighoul backrow is extremely useful, to the point where I’d get decision paralysis not knowing which one to get! We have Mimighoul Maker and Dungeon, the former being a play starter and the latter being a soft floodgate that is also a ROTA. Mimighoul Room provides both disruption and advantage by flipping your opponent’s monsters and fielding another Mimighoul. After Rage of the Abyss, we’ll also have access to Mimighoul Charm for an Extra Deck rip. Needless to say, the plethora of good Mimighoul backrow alone makes Dragon a must-have at 3, and being disruption when flipped with Mimighoul Master is just the cherry on top. TCG really cooked with this one!

+Can search a lot of strong backrow
+Functions as a disruption when paired with Mimighoul Master
-Horrendous attack stat in a deck with poor offensive pressure
-Flip effect can backfire in hybrid builds
