Mulcharmy Meowls – #SUDA-EN025

If you control no cards (Quick Effect): You can discard this card; apply these effects this turn.
● Each time your opponent Special Summons a monster(s) from any GY(s) or banishment, immediately draw 1 card.
● Once, during this End Phase, if the number of cards in your hand is more than the number of cards your opponent controls +6, you must randomly shuffle cards from your hand into the Deck so the number in your hand equals the number your opponent controls +6.
You can only activate 1 other “Mulcharmy” monster effect, the turn you activate this effect.

Hello Pojo Fans,

The third in the Mulcharmy archetype appears in Supreme Darkness and begins our week: Mulcharmy Meowls.

Meowls like all the Mulcharmy monsters can only be used if you control no cards (unlike Maxx C). This one like the others covers Special Summons, but Meowls will gift you a draw on each summon from the banished area or the grave that your opponent performs. Same stipulation at the end of it all: equal to the opponent’s hand +6 and shuffle back the extras.

Not as great as Fuwalos because that revolves around the Extra Deck and many players like to climb through their Extra Deck to get to the finished board they desire. Not to say that Meowls won’t be a fantastic tool coming out of the Side Deck, it is. The grave is used more than any time in the game’s history, and many strategies revolve around summoning from the banished area and the grave. This is a must against Maliss as they will be summoning several times per turn from the banished area. White Forest and Tenpai use their graveyards as well and garner advantage for you (if you survive Tenpai’s OTK push). Ryzeal on the other hand are meant for something like Purulia, and Fuwalos remains the best of the three.

Great Side Deck choice to play against Maliss, Tenpai, and White Forest. Better than Purulia because of the use of the grave in the meta, but not as good as Fuwalos. These cute critters have invaded the game and aren’t going away. It’s possible to run all three in a set a piece with Purulia and Meowls in the Side Deck. If your opponent relies heavily on the grave/banished areas, this is a great card.

Second week of generic stuff in Supreme Darkness, this time looking at more miscellaneous stuff not related to the Tactical Try Decks we didn’t get. Anyways, this is the third Mulcharmy here, so for completionist’s sake we’re going to review it: Mulcharmy Meowls.

Meowls is a Level 4 EARTH Beast with 100 ATK and 600 DEF. The same low stats we saw on the other Mulcharmies, but EARTH is solid, and Beast might be fun if you’re on Tri-Brigade with this. Anyways, same stuff as before, control no cards and you get the Quick Effect to discard this so that the rest of the turn you draw a card each time the opponent Special Summons a monster, and at the end of the turn you put cards back randomly until your hand size equals the number of cards the opponent controls +6, and of course, you can only use 1 more Mulcharmy effect for the rest of the turn, so you can stack different Mulcharmy effects or two copies of this. For Meowls, the catch is you draw each time the opponent summons a monster from the graveyard or banishment. It does seem like most Decks do this at least once nowadays, but this is most optimal against Decks that frequently have to summon from their graveyard or banishment to play. Maliss is a perfect example considering all their monsters can summon themselves from the banishment, and that’s how the Deck makes plays to begin with, so resolving this on the opponent will likely mean they’ll have to give you a ton of draws or they’ll have to stop their combo. Either case, it’s optimal for you. Orcust will get support soon and they do a bit of summoning monsters from the graveyard and banishment, though not to the level Maliss does. There are certainly Decks that a card like this is super effective against for maximum draws compared to Fuwalos or Purulia, but they’re fewer and far between compared to the others. If you expect to run into a Deck this will be good against, of course, have 3 in the Side Deck at the bare minimum. This format this perfect for it at the very least. It’s the most niche Mulcharmy, but it’s far from a bad card.

Advanced Rating: 4.25/5

Art: 4/5 For the name “Meowls” we have kind of a jellyfish appearance similar to Purulia instead of this looking like a cat.

We’re not done with Supreme Darkness one-offs! Continuing the infamous Mulcharmy mini-archetype is its latest member, Mulcharmy Meowls. This time it’s a level 4 EARTH Beast monster, giving it vague synergy with EARTH Beast piles (which, granted, aren’t exactly all the rage). It also comes with the typical Mulcharmy stats of only 100 attack and 600 defense, so don’t count on it for offensive support.

I don’t have to spell out its effects again; it’s exactly the same as the other two Mulcharmys, except instead of the hand or the Main Deck and Extra Deck, it’s from the Graveyard and Banishment instead. You’ll still be limited to only using it when your field is empty, and the shuffle thing that only comes up rarely. That said, now that we have a third Mulcharmy, it’s not a great idea to run it alongside the other 2 at the same time. Meowls isn’t as strong as Mulcharmy Fuwalos, but it’s almost exactly the same as Mulcharmy Purulia; it’ll weave in and out of relevance depending on the format. Pure Ryzeal is completely unphased by Meowls, but Maliss on the other hand gets folded like an omelette because of their reliance on summoning from banishment. Fiendsmith hybrids also get slapped a bit because of Engraver and Fabled Lurrie, but not as much as many Graveyard-focused combo decks. As such, Meowls is currently extremely popular in the Side Deck. However, Purulia is still the blind card of choice to Main Deck alongside Fuwalos instead. When the format is populated by more Graveyard and Banishment-heavy decks, I can see Meowls taking Purulia’s place in the Main Deck, but until then, it’ll stay in the Side Deck unless you’re extremely confident you won’t be running into (pure) Ryzeal any time soon.

+Extremely potent against Graveyard and Banishment-centric decks
+Mild synergy with EARTH Beasts
-Can be completely useless against certain decks and in some formats
-Competes with Mulcharmy Purulia as your second Mulcharmy
