Hello Pojo Fans,

Mysterion the Dragon Crown is a monster that caught my eye in this set, and something I’d run if I could find space for it.

Same materials as Dragoon, Mysterion has impressive ATK and can be summoned the same way Dragoon is 9 times out of 10 (Verte). Can’t be used as Fusion Material prevents it from being used as a Super Poly target via your opponent, but also stops you from using it to go into something else. A 100ATK drop for each banished card of your own may seem small, but its 3000ATK can drop easily, especially if you have to banish cards to summon it, or if you play things like Desires or Extravagance. The real power of Mysterion can come from its effect to banish. Yes, you need your opponent to Special Summon a monster(s) through a monster’s own effect to trigger the effect of Mysterion, but when that happens you banish one of those monsters AND all monsters of that Type on the field. Now if this were Spellcaster it wouldn’t be useful at all, since Mysterion would banish itself, but right now Spellcasters aren’t being Special Summoned outside of Dragoon very much. Drytron, Virtual World, and Dragon Link are still a thing, and there are plenty of monsters in there that will facilitate this effect. It may seem like hoops to jump through, but a banish and then a likely field-clearing banish isn’t too shabby. Even if you only got one monster, that is still at least a break even for you if you would lose Mysterion.

You won’t be using your Dragon and Spellcaster the first time for this monster, but it could be something to consider after. As long as you navigate that ATK drop you have a monster that can be removal and is a big body on board.

Next up we’ll look at what might be a pretty odd Super Polymerization target in Mysterion the Dragon Crown.

Mysterion is a Level 8 LIGHT Spellcaster Fusion with 3000 ATK and 1500 DEF. Good stats, LIGHT is great, and Spellcaster is pretty good. The Fusion Materials are any Dragon and any Spellcaster, which seems like you wouldn’t see together too much outside players using Dragoon. You could Super Poly against a Dragon Deck playing Spellcasters and vice-versa at least, and I guess this is strong to have against Dragon Link users playing Dragoon. Anyways, it cannot be used as Fusion Material, so using Super Poly to summon this won’t make you fall weak to the same play. This card loses 100 ATK for each of your banished cards, though considering everything going for it, I don’t think is necessary. Anyways, if a monster uses its activated effect to Special Summon itself, or a monster(s) with the same original Type (bar during the Damage Step), you can target one of those Special Summoned monsters and banish that monster alongside every other monster on the field with the same Type. So I guess that might somewhat explain why the debuff on this card is here, but again I don’t think it’s needed, though probably won’t be too relevant. Anyways, it’s a good way to clear a board before it really builds up. A lot of Decks uses the same Type, but even against those that don’t, you can at least get rid of a monster. It’s a hard once per turn effect, which I guess is fine considering two of these hitting the field might not be likely. It’s an interesting card overall, and might come up in Dragon and Spellcaster metagames. Don’t think you’ll have to worry about seeing this too often at least, though this seems like a card you could of built an archetype around instead.
