A lot of the Jeskai cards from Dragonstorm are focused on the act of casting two spells a turn to qualify for their ability word’s bonuses. Narset is more about asking what happens after, as befits her role as a martial arts instructor (there’s always something more to learn), as well as the needs of Magic games. After all, if your deck plans on casting two spells each turn, you’re going to run out of spells pretty soon. She’s surprisingly unspectacular in decks that limit themselves to the strict requirements of the flurry ability, but has some intriguing potential in decks that set their sights high. Rebound and suspend both come to mind as keywords that would work well with her – and she’s a card that keeps your big turn/s going while being your commander.

Narset might have lost her spark, but she’s still got a couple of tricks up her sleeves. Narset, Jeskai Waymaster is a perfect sort of Jeskai enabler, letting you refresh and refill your hand after a big turn. While setting up a graveyard play is also a nice upside, being able to parley a big turn into a massive refill is a solid place to be, and if your hand looks dire, sometimes you can swap it out for something nicer. She’s also not the frailest body, and while she’s not going to win many games on her own, she’s not going to fold to a stiff breeze, and each turn she remains is more chance to refill your hand.
