Narset’s Reversal – MTG Card Review

A bit of an interesting spell, Narset’s Reversal is one part Unsubstantiate and one part Twincast. It’s pretty nifty, thanks to its flexibility: you can use it as a pseudo-counterspell against an opponent’s spell, or you can use it on your own spell as a two-mana buyback on it. It’s limited to instants and sorceries, making it maybe a bit limited, but it has a lot of flexibility baked in, and (or example) being able to delay their kill spell and use it on one of their creatures is a nice place to be. I think it’s a potent trick, and I expect it to see plenty of Standard play and some healthy appearances in eternal formats…though, again, it’s limited in what it can hit, and double blue is a bit on the restrictive side.

I never thought I’d see the day when we saw a Fork variant that did something we haven’t seen on other ones. It’s just as good at stealing opponent’s spells or scaling up your own, and causing cool things to happen in the process, but it also acts as a weird variant of Remand when you target an opponent’s card. Sometimes it’s actually better, like when you copy something like Tamiyo’s Epiphany or even just a Lightning Strike that you throw at their planeswalker. It gets pretty insane in the late game when you start being able to use it on big spells like Banefire and Scapeshift – definitely worth considering for any format where there are good targets (which is basically all of them, to be fair.
