The demon of the cloud village Alright guy and gals, today we’re gonna look at a fire – lightning deck from one of my favorite noobs, Ray Hennequet. This man loves to play the game. He’s been playing at my local shop for a while, and has been pining for a ninja academy winning playmat the whole time. He’s been improving steadily, and he thinks this week is his week for a mat, so let’s see if we can pump up his deck a little bit and give him that edge. Here’s the deck list he sent me:
Ninja (25)
Jutsus (12)
Alight, not terrible, but he’s trying to a lot of stuff here, so lets see if we can refocus his deck and give him a little more power. He says he’s an aggro style player, but he also likes to block, so we’ll give him cards that allow him to do both. We’ll fill out his zero’s and ones with some naruto’s, because when he blocks he gets bigger, and then can be aggro. We’ll also make sure the deck is Iruka rich, which will allow Iruka to take the hit while leaving the other ninja’s healthy. Plus we’ll add some more tech cards, making the blocking more damaging. Let’s begin.
Turn 0 (5) – Here we need some more beef, well actually hole deck needs some more beef, but here is where we can really add some power early game. We are dropping the Kiba’s and the no text cards, oh, and we’ll drop lazy bum. We’ll definitely need 3 Sasuke’s at this stage, I like both AOC and No. 1 Rookie, and both can be aggro, AOC is early game strong, and late game week, but Rookie will be less so early game, but very strong late game. We’ll add two rookies and leave the single AOC. We’ll add two konohamaru – HG, we want to get our jounin’s out early. We’ll move our extra space to the one drop.
Turn 1 (7) – We’ll leave the Rock Lee’s – goe, but we’ll drop everything else. Here we’re gonna add three naruto’s – one Imposter and two Strength in Crisis. Ray really loves to block and that Imposter is great if you’re lucky. Additionally, he can block once with SIC, and then he’ll be even bigger than AOC Sasuke when blocked, and that will surprise a lot of people. We’ll throw in 2 Temari’s for good measure. Who doesn’t like to make their opponents discard cards.
Turn 2 (4) – Alright, we’re gonna drop everything but the reward and the mozuku, and add two more Iruka scapegoats. This will allow Ray to block with reckless abandon and still be able to keep his big head ninja’s healthy without really losing much support. Plus all the Iruka’s will help rock lee grow.
Turn 3 (2) – His turn 3 are okay I guess, In a more perfect world he’d have two anko’s or an anko and an anbu, but we all don’t have unlimited supplies of supers, so a three drop is a three drop, it’ll work.
Turn 4 (3) – We’ll keep the two kurenai, she’s beefy and is always an asset on any team. She’s great support, a jounin, and just all around great. We’ll drop both of the kakashi’s and add one turn 4 zabuza. We don’t want the temptation to drop a kakashi when we have a better one waiting in the wings on turn 5, and zaby is a great alternative.
Turn 5 (3) – One Might Guy, two Kakashi’s – I like the one he’s running, but I also like copy ninja and Early Settlement. Ray has indicated he doesn’t have either of these cards, so we’ll add two of the confidence in subordinates to ensure we have enough beef late game.
Turn 6 (1) – This a good.
Moving on to Jutsus – we’re gonna skim this down a little bit, to make some room for missions, cause we’re kinda mission light right now. I like the paper bombs, they are funny, but we’ll need to drop one to make room. I love the Kunai, and the sexy jutsu so we’ll keep those, we’ll add one more sexy jutsu. It’s a fire deck, so we’ll have to add 2 trigrams, it’s too strong and too cheap to pass up. We’ll also add three Sharingan eyes, ‘cause we need some negation, and we’ll have a lot of strong sharigan users on our teams late game with the Rookie Sasuke and kakashi. We’ll take that extra free spot to the missions. This jutsu lineup is very simple, but is also very easy to play. This is a great lineup for an up and coming player. There aren’t a lot of options, but the options are all very strong and devastating. Even the simple kunai can force your opponent to make a bad play late game, waste a negation or trigram, giving you an open door to trigram back.
Missions – The mission lineup isn’t bad, and I’m won’t fix something if it is not broken. I will drop one of the noodle shops for a Missing pet tora, and I’ll also drop a Stay out of this, which I think is a really annoying card, which means it will be a good addition to this deck.
Aright, the new deck list will look like this:
Ninja (25)
Naruto x2 (SIC)
Temari x2
Iruka Umino x2 (Scapegoat)
Jutsus (11)
Sharingan Eye x3 Mission of Capturing the Missing Pet Tora x1 Stay Out of this x1
For final thoughts on this, I was really torn about whether to keep the rock lee in this deck. I don’t really think he’s good unless the whole deck is focused around making him grow. If this were my deck, I would drop the rock lees, and add two more cards: another might guy, another hokage, or another 3 drop. Any 2 of those three would make the deck stronger late game and give you more targets for your trigrams. I know Ray is a big Rock Lee fan, so I kept them in there at his request.
