Iruka Umino-Scapegoat
The Good
-Damage Prevention
The Bad
-Low Stats
-Turn 2
-Other Irukas
And to finish off the week, we have a bit of an
older card, Iruka Umino(Scapegoat). This is a card
that saw a lot of play in lightning decks first set,
but who's use has gone down with the addition of
better Irukas. But let's look at it's effect, shall
we?
When the Head ninja of this ninja's team takes
damage, reduce it by one. Then, give this ninja one
damage.
This is quite a good effect, but thanks to
Zabuza(DOCV), it hasn't seen much play because it
can't protect someone from the Demon's effect. But
in most other situations, this protection from one
damage still works from other sources, such as Paper
Bomb, Fire Ball, and other widely played Jutsu. With
an effect like this, it's hard not to play him in a
control deck, despite his low stats. If he was just
a 3/2 instead of a 3/1, he'd be a great splash in
just about any deck. But even still, this is a card
that will probably get better the longer this game
goes on.

Today's last COTD holds a
soft spot in my heart....well, at least in my Deck,
heh:
Iruka Umino-Rare Lightning Ninja; Costs: 2-0; 3/1,
1/1; Leaf/Chunin/Male
[Scapegoat] Valid: When the Head Ninja of this
Ninja's Team receives any Damage, you can reduce the
Damage by 1. Then, give 1 Damage to this Ninja.
The first playable Iruka, from the Path to Hokage
set, it still seems some play, around my area at
least. Whenever your Head Ninja receives Damage, and
this Iruka is on that Team, the Damage is reduced by
1, and your Iruka takes one for the Team. This card
I mainly use in my Rock Lee Deck, so when my Rock
Lee (GoE) attacks and is beaten, he still gets his
'token' and is healed up again! A useful healing
Ninja of sorts, it can be splashed into any Deck
really, if you know your Ninjas are gonna take a
beating, that is.
Constructed: 4/5 (Best Iruka, IMO)
Limited: 3/5

Christmas-Eve-Eve-Eve:
Eventually, I am going to review an entire week of
cards. At once. On time. And when Naruto has a
higher profit margin than Yu-Gi-Oh!, I'll buy a
mansion and fill it full of candy and sports cars.
Now to go do something unrealistic. :P
(LIGHTNING) Iruka Umino
Leaf | Chunin | Male
Entrance Cost: 2 Hand Cost: 0
Combat: 3/1 Injured: 1/1
Pros:
- Turn 2 Drop
- All around good stats
- Valid Ability
- Lightning Support
- Good in a pinch
Cons:
- Injured stats aren't that great
- Not a Jonin
Now this cards has some great Pro's going for it.
The ability is great in a pinch and even works with
Yondaime's if the combo is performed right, but I
wouldn't say that's too reliable, as it requires a
two-drop and six-drop to be performed. His stats are
good for a two-drop, with the added bonus of still
being 1/1 while injured. He's a solid card for
Lightning decks as well, not needing any overly
difficult requirements for his ability to go off.
Having 3 combat also makes him a good choice for
Head Ninja if you topdeck into him and you're out of
strong ninja at the moment. Finally, the fact that
(while suicidal) his ability is Valid makes him even
better.
The cons here aren't the worst either, as there
aren't many different Iruka cards out there, meaning
you don't run into the same usage problems that
you'd run into with say, Sasuke or Kakashi. The
injured stats aren't the best, but they're there all
the same. The only thing that really hurst him, I'd
say, is the fact that if you draw into him late
game, there are many jutsu he can't use because of
his rank. Still, I can't find a lot wrong with this
card.
Constructed: 4/5 - Hard to find a reason not to use
him, at least in Lightning.
Limited: 3.5/5 - Still good, but two or three would
be better IMO.
Art: 2/5 - Seems a little too laid back compared to
this scene in the anime.
