Friday's card is the new
Choji Akimichi, Formation who isn't unfortunately
not nearly as exciting as the other two. He's still
a Turn 0 2/0 healthy, 0/0 injured. His effect allows
you to deal 1 damage to a ninja with an entrance
cost of 0 if he's opposed, in which case he also
takes 1 damage at the end of the turn. Choji
unfortunately gets the short end of the stick when
it comes to awesome effects for the Ino-Shika-Cho
formation as his relies on Shikamaru's ability and
in a way Ino's to work and in the end he still takes
a damage, which can kill him. If anyone read the
article in which bandai previewed these, they added
the new Hinata because of the backlash Choji suffers
from his effect. To make Choji work repeatedly, you
need to keep him healthy, which the new Hinata
does(I can explain more if we review her next week).
You can also use Iyashi or Mitate because ultimately
Choji's effect is more reliant on Shikamaru than Ino
and she can be traded out for either Iyashi or
Mitate. Alone, Choji is still a good Turn 0 ninja as
he is as big as most anything dropped Turn 0(aside
Sasuke) and can at least do 1 damage to any
opponent's ninja if he attacks. Alone, he's a crappy
Dosu. With Shikamaru and healers, he can get really
annoying.
Limited: 3/5(even if you don't pull Shikamaru, he'll
render any Turn 0 ninja less useful)
Constructed: 3/5(he looks like a crappy Dosu until
you run the new Shika and healers)
Beastly Mage
Choji
Akimichi (N-US016)
Happy Friday, Naruto fans. Today's card is another
member of the Formation deck. If he's sent out to
battle and opposed by a Turn-0 Ninja you can give
that Ninja 1 damage. Problem is that at the end of
the turn Choji gets damage as well. But, if you run
the Formation deck and you have the combo out (The
new InoShikaCho team + The new Hinata at Stand-By)
you don't have to worry that much.

Akira
Much like Naruto [Control
of Power] and Third Hokage [Addressing Past Wrongs];
Play him...
or else. :)
On to the review!
This Chouji is the king of all Choujis by far! He's
like "It would be my pleasure...to kick your teeth
in then go party with your girlfriend! Cuz I'm a
playa!"
Let's take a look at his potential (on his own)
he can injure:
Sasuke AoC (gives him two damage unless they pump
sasuke somehow)
Naruto CoP (when it's already injured of course >_>)
Shikamaru IQ
And will basically give 2 damage into any other turn
0 ninja that people sometimes play to smooth out
their elements, like Shigure or Kiba.
But pair him with Shikamaru [Formation] and that's
when the fun really starts. Suddenly, Chouji is a
threat to your opponent's Zabuza, Kakashi ES, third
APW, or whatever. Man, wouldn't it be funny to see
your opponent hesitate to send one of their big
Jonin ninjas out only to be chump blocked and pwned
by a chubby teenager?
I expect him to be a staple, much like Shika [US
Formation] and Naruto [Control of Power], but it's
still too early to say!
Ajj
It’s Friday, and what
better way to celebrate Friday than laughing at a
fat kid, but not any fat kid, Choji. The new Choji
succeeds where almost all Chojis have failed before
him, he’s actually playable (Chubby was ok for a
little bit). The new Choji has a more flexible
version of the Dosu effect, though limited. He can
give one damage to a turn 0 ninja battling against
him and give himself one damage at the end of the
turn. Though he’s not valid, he doesn’t have to be
the head ninja to pull off his effect, and when
paired with the new Shika, he can take out any head
ninja battling against him.
Though he has a good effect, he has crappy stats for
a turn 0 drop and a lot of competition. His effect
is good but will often be useless and inconsistent +
without a Shika he becomes useless late game.
Overall, Choji is a fat, stupid, butterfly..? ninja
that opens the door to a lot of interesting combos
and will probably see some competitive play
(especially in Genin themed decks).
Limited: 3.5/5 (Good effect and ok stats for a 0
drop)
Constructed: 3.2/5 (Though not that great by
himself, he opens the door to some interesting
combos and deck archetypes)
Art: 3/5 (Ughh… So FAT!)
