Beastly Mage
Orochimaru
(n217)
Hello there, Pojo-ers. Today's card is from the
newest set "Dream Legacy": Orochimaru [Deal]. When
he's deployed, your opponent must do one of two
things: either draw a card while giving your a
battle reward or not draw and let you discard two
cards from his/her hand. This card is just one of
those that can make your opponent either cringe or
say a really big "whuteva!" since if he or she
doesn't have a hand then you can't discard. Still,
it's a pretty solid card, having all of the stats of
his previous incarnation (wait a minute...). In a
Sound deck he's pretty good, as well as in water
decks. Try and see.

A lot of people really
like the new Orochimaru for good reasons. It's
effect reminds me of a lot of Magic: the Gathering
cards which give your opponent a lose-lose situation
to decide upon. If your opponent draws the card, you
get a battle reward (which is really nice) and if
not, they discard 2 cards which is also great. On
top of that he's your typical Orochimaru with great
stats. Step aside EYAL.
In limited, any ninja with stats like this is a
great pick. It's effect is great when resources are
limited and losing BRs make a bigger difference (if
you've only got 1 jutsu that negates jutsus or 1
turn 6, for example.)

Art: 2/5 (EYAL has better art IMO...)

Orochimaru is our
standard Orochimaru with an effect that is good
or bad depending on how you use it. Deal's
effect allows the opponent to draw a card and
give you a Battle Reward or not draw and discard
two cards. A lot of cards in this set deal with
card drawing, but this one gives your opponent a
choice to draw or not draw. Depending on who's
across from you, the choice they make can either
be in your favor or screw you over. If your
opponent is new to the game, they may take
the second choice believing they do not want to
give you that Battle Reward but the expert will
either give you the Battle Reward when they are
just about to win(or believe they will anyway)
or take option number 2 when they have an empty
hand(very likely by Turn 6). This card tests
the ablity of both players and a good player can
make a deck with this that can make up for the
downsides. Add some control elements to stop
Jutsus and Missions for the first choice and
something like Leaf Ninja Forces for the second
one. Not a bad Orochimaru, but not as broken as
Eternal Life and Beauty, the one most people
will play when they can get him.
Limited: 5/5(anytime
you pull Orochimaru in a tournament is a good
day).
Constructed:
4.5/5(only because you're more likely to run
Eternal Life and Beauty if you got him)
