Beastly Mage
Protean
Jutsu searching... Nice! This mission lets you
search for a Jutsu card among the first five cards
on the top of your deck, show it to your opponent...
and then put the rest of your cards in the order you
want and not re-shuffle the deck. This is pretty
good for Gaara [Immense Power] decks when Gaara's
not out yet. You can search for the Jutsus and make
sure Gaara comes out quicker. Try it and see.

Alucard of the Abyss
Today continues Mission
week with possibly the best Mission out of Battle of
Destiny and my personal favorite of the set. Today
we get to Protean. Now before I begin the review, I
want to start with a small bit about the origin of
this oddly named card.
The word "Protean" (pronounced Pro-te-an) comes from
the Greek Mythological being called Proteus, who
could change his shape at will. Protean has the
general meanings of "versatile" and "mutable" and
"capable of assuming many forms". Protean also has
positive connotations of flexibility, versatility
and adaptability (credits: Wiki and the dictionary).
Quite fitting for a card based on Gaara's Sand and
also a card with so many uses.
It's a turn two Mission that has the usual hand
cost. It's Wind Element which is exactly what Wind
needs, good Missions. The effect of this Mission is
what makes it a candidate for best Mission card out
of Battle of Destiny. It allows you to look at the
top 5 cards of your deck, pick a Mission or Jutsu
card among the top 5 and then return the cards to
the top of your deck in any order you want. Now this
card has many benefits because not only does it give
you a Mission or Jutsu (if you happen to find one
that is) but it also allows you to arrange the top 4
(or 5) cards of your deck so that you can plan turns
in advance or plan if you're going to give your
opponent Battle Rewards and what those Battle
Rewards will be. A very useful card indeed. It's
useful in both Mono-Wind builds and Wind/x builds
and I suggest using at least two if you are building
either of these because it's that good of a card.
In Limited it's still a good card. If you can get
enough Wind to play it then do so. Being able to
arrange the top 5 cards of your deck is even better
in this format because you can cycle the dead cards
towards the bottom and get to the more useful stuff
sooner. If you happen to pull this then you should
try and make your deck able to utilize this useful
tool.
I like the art on this card alot. The art on the
card matches the name and I'm a fan of Gaara.
Besides being a fan of Gaara I think the art on the
card was very well done.
Tomorrow we finish up Mission week with an Earth
Mission that doesn't see a whole lot of play now,
but has potential to sometime down the line as more
sets come out.

Welcome Pojoers! Today's
card of the day is Protean.
I play two of these in my mono-wind main deck. They
really do help. If you think about it, you're
running at least 13 Jutsu/Mission. Looking for one
of those out of the top 5 is likely to get 1, but
also you're arranging the next few cards coming up.
Very good rare. Nice art too.
Try this card, it really is better than it looks,
give it a shot.

Protean. I still do not
know what that word means. Anyway, it is a nice new
wind mission. Turn 2, allows you to search the top
5 cards of your deck for a jutsu or mission, and
then you can return the rest in any order you like.
In most decks, ninjas will be more abundant that
jutsus and missions combined, but you still have
good odds of pulling a jutsu or mission you need.
And it allows you to set up your next 4 turns.

Limited:3.5/5(ninjas are more important to find, but
this is still great.)
