Alucard of the Abyss
Today we get to the number
2 card in the top 10 of 2007 and it is certainly a
card that dominated the majority of '07. Today we
look at Sasuke Uchiha [Beyond the Limits]. This card
(in conjunction with Chidori which I will get to)
made Freedori the deck to beat of 2007.
We'll begin with it's stats. It's got average Sasuke
stats and is a turn one. It has Growth so it's gets
a boost in score there It's also got Sharingan Eye
like most Sasuke do. Now on to it's effect, it can
play any card named "Chidori" without paying the
Jutsu cost. Now this effect is very powerful because
of the powerful Chidori that they make. Also good
because the Jutsu cost of most Chidori is 2 Fire and
1 Generic Chakra. This card is meant to dominate
early to mid game with Chidori that are played for
free with most likely the opponent not having a
chance to negate them. This strategy alone coined
the decktype "Freedori". A deck that played Chidori
for free by abusing his effect.
Now his effect is nothing without good Chidori and
that's another good thing. He has almost a virtual
toolbox of effects on Chidori. There is the major
damage one (the one that sees the most play and was
reviewed earlier in the week, the R&R one) and also
one that lets you draw as well as a few other useful
effects. That's the obvious and really the only
combo with this card is with Chidori. Otherwise it
is just a turn 1 Ninja with average stats. The only
other combo is using cards that work with his
Sharingan Eye characteristic.
In Limited unless you can pull a good Chidori, I
would pass this card by. His stats are average even
for this format and his effect is useless without a
Chidori.
Constructed: 4/5 (It did dominate the better half of
'07 but it seems to have decreased in play lately)
Limited: 2.5/5 (all it has is the stats unless you
pull Chidori)
Tomorrow we look at THE top card of 2007. This card
was the most played card of the year and was the
first thing added when Bandai came out with an
errata list. Be sure to check it out.
The
First Hokage
Sasuke[Beyond the Limits]
At number 2, we have the leader himself renovating
the deck type we called Freedori from February until
the end of September. Sasuke is a turn 1 Ninja with
Sharingan Eye. He only has 3 Power, but he also has
growth, and of course, he has the nifty effect of
using the Chidori card for no chakra cost
whatsoever. This card was fantastic at bluffing or
just putting Chidori in the face of your opponent as
early as turn 1. And you didn't even need to worry
about Chakra because it was a free jutsu for Sasuke
to use. His stats aren't that great, but Chidori
easily bumps Sasuke to a power of 8 by himself,
definitely solid early game, and could give you real
early game advantage.
Freedori has died off right now in the meta due to
the errata to some of Fire's key cards. Either way,
this was one of the bread and butter cards of
Freedori.
My Ratings:
Constructed: [As Of Right Now]: 3.5/5 [Formerly]:
4.5/5
Limited: 3.25/5 It's still at turn 1 which is nice,
and if you pull Chidori, it's cool.

On to number 2. Sasuke
Uchiha(Beyond the Limits). What has been said about
Chidori(R&R) can mostly also be said about this
Sasuke, since his entire effect revolves around
Chidori. So, not much to say here. He was awesome
before, still good, but with Shikamaru
Nara(Formation) being run in just about EVERY deck,
it is harder to pull off his effect.
Constructed:3.5/5(non-valid, and has to get around a
popularly played early game card)
Limited:3/5(He's a decent early game ninja, plus if
you actually pull Chidori, these together will win
you the games that you draw them both.)

Sasuke Uchiha [Beyond the Limit]
This card benefited most from the set it came out
in.
BTL put the "Free" in "Freedori". It's still a card
to fear.
I suspect this card will always see a fair amount of
play. There are enough versions of Chidori to choose
from now that it's no longer necessary to have the
hard-to-find Chidori from R & R.
Aside from it's effect it's one of only a few Sasuke
with Taijutsu. It has the stats of a turn 0 Sasuke
and growth.
For Constructed tournaments he's excellent. With the
right cards he has a lot of potential even though he
has since dropped out of the top tier spot light.
Supported with enough draw power and Chidori, this
card will always be effective.
For limited your chances of pulling Chidori are slim
to none. If you choose to use this card it will be
for it's stats which aren't very impressive for a
turn 1.
