M-310 Under a Starry Sky (UASS)
Hello readers. Today's card continues the
mission-themed week we are currently having. It also
follows yesterday's card as this is also a Turn-3
dual-element mission (Wind/Earth).
So for the cost of 1 Wind or Earth symbol from your
hand you essentially get to do the following:
Count the number of Ninjas in your village that
have both the "Leaf" and "Genin" characteristics.
You can then retrieve that number of cards from your
discard pile, arrange them in any order, and place
them on top of your deck.
Now, how practical is that effect? Well, if you are
playing a deck that focuses heavily on Wind and/or
Earth and a lot of your Ninjas are in the "Leaf" and
"Genin" category, then this card may be for you. A
deck that might find room for this is one of those
good old Genin Rush style decks. Those decks do tend
to use a lot of Ninjas that would qualify for the
effect of UASS.
So, the real question is: Will this card see
play over the other wealth of Earth/Wind mission
cards often found in Genin Rush decks? With the
current 40-card decks, it will not likely see a lot
of play. We already have Emina who lets you get back
5 Ninjas and is easily splashed into most decks.
Plus, Wind/Earth tempo-style decks already have a
lot of their slots filled with a wide variety of
good mission cards (Caged Bird, Pass Permit, etc).
However, with the format changing to 50 cards, you
may see cards like Under a Starry Sky
begin to populate decks.
I would currently score Under a Starry Sky
as...
Constructed: 2/5
Limited: 1/5 (There weren't a lot of Leaf Genin
ninjas in Lineage.)
Art: All the Genin hanging out/5
